Blending in with your environment is the point. Not just woods. Just like op said, Iraqis had no uniform, their uniform is civilian clothing. I'd say dress like a merc and you'll look less of a threat. |

Plus I don't want to attract attention from neighbors/strangers that would make them assume I have any preps. Only if I hooked up with others/friends would I do that. |

I found a pair of Brown Columbia waterproof hiking boots for $35 at Gander Mountain, and a Brown Rainforest 2 piece Water/wind proof jacket for $30(originally $325) at Marshalls. It looks professional. I just need to stock up on good pants. Khaki and Brown are my colors of choice for Urban areas. No reason to make yourself stick out like a sore thumb. 2 weeks into WROL, I don't care what color my clothes are, as long as they are going to last me a very long time. Anonymous Coward User ID: 34347404 United States 02/14/2013 10:51 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I see different setups and theories on how/what to wear wshtf. Some people prefer camo gear in multicam, ACU, OD etc. I have also seen theories of civilian look to blend in. Quoting: TheTruthNeverLies I believe each situation will determine your load out. I think a pair of cargo pants, black shirt, base ball cap and gear under a big jacket looks way less suspicious then all out ACU camo gear everything and looking like special forces is coming to town. Look at the Iraqi's and Taliban. They couldnt be easily defeated because they blend in general populations.I would keep a pair of camo gear in case its needed due to environment changes. But I see all these peppers on youtube loaded with tons of gear that weighs u down(how does 8, 30 round ak47 mags feel with a plate carrier and 8 pound plates?) pointless attachments to weapons, and camo everything. When its like Syria then that's cool if u can run with all that gear, but it ain't gonna fly like that right away. That's just my thoughts. What's yours? I also believe is shtf, it will be much like Syria. Again, my personal thoughts. Oh and check out this video, kinda fucked up Syrian Rebels trying to escape the heat end up toasted in intense firefight [link to www.liveleak.com] It depends upon the area you intend to bug out to, how much money you want to spend and other such factors. The general recommendation in any case, is heavy duty, long lasting clothing. You may not get a new "set" for a year or two, so it better be built to last. People need to consider being outdoors 24/7, so covering most of the body, to protect from the sun and the elements and insects, is a good idea. Regular clothing could be fine, except for bright colors or those with flashy metal attachments or other such things. Don't forget a heavy or light coat and rain gear, depending upon your location, and something to carry your extra stuff in. Lets hope we never need such things. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 34334776 United States 02/14/2013 10:55 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | It depends on your area of operation. Urban - normal clothes, maybe khakis, dont want to look tactical at all, or combat ready at all. Rural - camo is a must however I would shy away from military grade why? it sucks. Mossy Oak or any region/season specific hunting grade camo is way more effective. If you must use military (tiger stripe, MARPAT digital, German Flecktarn depending on the time of year and region). In my region the forests are thick jungle like huge leafy plants, thick underbrush during the summer hence the tiger-stripe or MARPAT, fall flecktarn/MARPAT. However for in town usage normal clothes by far unless my community rallies into a common defense for each other, in which sticking out wont be a concern. Then again in my area people wear camo all day anyways. |
