Quoting: Anonymous Coward 34250665 I would imagine that initially the impact would thrust the whole planet sideways several hundred or thousand miles flinging everything everywhere violently and then the ground would have the consistency of water from being pulverized, and then a giant super heated air blast thousands of degrees F. would circle the globe killing everything. And depending on the size of the other planet, probably would turn the crust and mantle of earth into molten magma. Not a good day. objective viewer |
tommar User ID: 34229974 Croatia 02/12/2013 01:36 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Im no astronomer so I lack supposed "knowledge"... Quoting: nameh is heman 34251186 But if viewing an incoming "object", especially one of a high rate of speed, wouldnt you only be able to see the earth facing side of said "object"? So really how would one know juat how big this thing really is...maybe what we are seeing is really only a fraction of what follows? It's rotating! Like everything in space. Xept artificial objects... 5-7-10-12-15-25-32 |

What if Obummer has a different announcement to make tonight? NAHHH ... Quoting: Anonymous Coward 7707807 Isn't it just the opposite? M1 attracts M2 and M2 attracts M1 reciprocally So if M2 mass was larger then the attraction is greater between the two. In this situation M1>>>>>>M2 to such an extent that you can effectively ignore M2. Even if you double or triple M2 it still would be irrelevant. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 590644 United States 02/12/2013 02:01 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The bigger it is, the more mass. == A different trajectory due to gravity. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 33337660 The gravity of earth will affect it the same regardless of its mass. Physics fail. Even if it were a kilometer wide the difference in its mass would not matter. Thanks Doc; you I have some trust in. (I knew the mass didn't matter) Do you have any numbers that point to a distance less than the ~14,000 miles above the surface? I would love for it to pass through the atmosphere. Lots of people pissing their pants as this thing breaks the sound barrier at something near mach 4. |

Of course though astromut says it wont hit so I guess we believe him, however if they were wrong at NASA on size then how do we know they were not wrong on where its going?? Of course if they were wrong they wouldn't tell us would they?? |

You sound like a young guy. Here I have been thinking you are an old retired fellow to have time to piss around on a goofy forum like this. (I am old and retired) Thanks!
