"Thread killed." Reading comprehension is required here. The discussion centers on the option of an altar being built of stone. If they decide to use stone, they cannot hew the stone. If they hew it they pollute it. This applies to all stone cutting for god's purposes. The operative word is 'hewn' (or chiseled), which is forbidden by god.
