Unemployed people forced to do 'voluntary' work for no pay - now ruled illegal by court in UK!
This is a great victory for unemployed people who could, at any time be sent to work in a shop or elsewhere for 30 hours a week for no pay, or they would lose their benefits.

[link to www.bbc.co.uk]

It has now been deemed by this appeals court to be unlawful to do it, so the stinking chancer bastards that infest our governments have had a good punch in the nose from this legal ruling.

in the UK collecting benefits and leeching off the government from birth to death is considered a valid lifestyle. since we limit benefits to some extent in the US, UKers are jealous we're not following them down their path to communistic peace. they express that jealousy by calling us slaves. it's similar to how they call us scared/pussies because we won't allow ourselves to be disarmed like they were in the UK; meekly submitting to the confiscations.

Many US states require 32 hours per week of voluntary work for welfare benefits if paid work cannot be found. That works out to less than $1 an hour.

I found an official thing on the US one:

"Adults in one-parent families must spend at least 32 hours per week in welfare to work activities. The minimum participation requirement for two-parent families is 35 hours per week. After receiving aid for up to a maximum of 24 months, non-exempt adults must work in unsubsidized employment or participate in community services activities for the minimum number of hours listed above."

If you're an alcoholic, you get paid to feed your addiction. If you're on drugs, you get your benefits and all the help you need, as well as certain freebies.
If you're unemployed and looking for work or simply worky shy, it doesn't matter because looking for work and work shy are labelled the same...scum and get no help whatsoever.

What a fucked up system.

I based that on the welfare check I was offered of $90 a month when I applied when I was broke there lol.
I took a look at the chart at
[link to www.cbpp.org]
and it looks more like it would equal $2 an hour in some states. Lucky them :)

Many states have welfare to work. It's not just California.
It's a federally mandated program that each state deals with individually. If you are really interested, look it up by each state.

"The Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996 (PRWORA) is a United States federal law considered to be a fundamental shift in both the method and goal of federal cash assistance to the poor. The bill added a workforce development component to welfare legislation, encouraging employment among the poor"

But i heard you have to prove you were job searching for 40 hrs a week, to even receive benefits for JSA.

so in reality your working 40 hrs a week for about £40 a week? if that? and you get demoralized as every company you apply to does not even send you a thankyou or a note to say youve not been short listed.

Well i remain unemployed and not claiming jsa, since october.

I'v always thought requirements like that were ridiculous.
It costs more than 40 to job search for 40 hours a week: Buses, CV paper, interview clothes, internet access, etc.

As for volunteering 32 hours per week. That's a game for the rich. The poor cannot afford the transportation, clothing, childcare, etc on top of their bills on welfare sums. So, either, they cannot afford to work for free, or we end up subsidising their volunteering by paying for additional vouchers for childcare, transit, etc which costs the tax payers 3 times as much to subsidise someone's slavery instead of just paying them a wage to do the work.

in the uk they put people in prison for serious crimes and dont make them work.. for instance commiting a serious murder will only get you locked for 7 years

in america its 3 strikes and your third being a non serious crime will still get you life and prisons are really just work camps..

thats the slave model he's talking about

Whatever the $amount of SS paid, if they require you work as part of an agreement the hours required should be SS amount paid / industry standard rate of pay per hour for that particular industry. No one gets ripped off and new skills are learnt at the same time.

Here in Australia there's a culture of welfare dependency where there are 2nd generation recipients coming into the system - whether due to actual hardship or bludgers that couldn't be bothered to help themselves. The government is to blame themselves also as they tend to make it relatively easy for someone to have some bullshit reason why they can't work - eg stress, some bullshit medical condition, alcohol/drug dependency.

A friggin TV series was even made about 'housos'

They sent me to work in a ladies clothes shop, lol. I refused to take my hat off; why should I? I love my hat. They sent me back to the agency who were really angry and said I had to get a letter from a doctor. I eventually found a nice understanding doctor who said he would write a letter but it would cost me. I told the agency that they could have the letter but they would have to pay. They refused and gave up on me. Hilarious drama.

I’m an ex computer programmer now working.

That scheme was oh so wrong.

I was on JSA for a few months, the whole system is a farce. They are a private company interested in profits, not getting people into lasting, meaningful employment. I made shit up the day before my meeting and it never got more than a cursory glance. I was getting £500 a month (rent and two fortnightly payments of £100). For this all I had to do was show up for 15 mins every two weeks. Yes I'm a scumbag, what of it.

Even in the time I was on the dole I was all for forced work. It's not like you are working for free and it's always easier to get a job when you are already in one. The only people I hear moaning about this are those straight from Uni with degrees not worth the paper they are printed on, these folks are butthurt because they expected to walk straight into a £25K a year job. Newsflash, even people with respectable degrees are struggling to find work, the schools lied to you. Business doesn’t want overeducated sanctimonious students with entitlement issues.

The idea that you should sit on your dead ass for 99 weeks and collect unemployment is a joke. How many people run out without gaining any skills? You want tax dollars? Earn it.
