It is approximately 11am xxxx High and Intermediate School is currently experiencing a lockdown. This decision was made after administration received notification from the xxxx Police Department regarding threats made against the School. Please know that we are working hard to keep our children safe. Please refrain from coming to campus or calling the school to keep our lines open for emergency personnel. We will give you an update when more information is available. Thank you for your Kokua

So 3 hours later another call comes from our youngest. Apparently in lockdown everyone is to stay in their class or where they are until lockdown is called off. That meant 3 hours with the chemistry teacher. Hah! Upon getting into the car I finally hear the reason for the lockdown and tale of how someone threatened to do a drive-by shooting. There is also a letter from the school given to all of the students as to what happened along with another automated telephone call and email.

Later that evening is the news article on what happened. More info from local news coverage.

WAIMEA, BIG ISLAND (HawaiiNewsNow) -
After two-and-a-half tense hours, a lockdown at four schools on the Big Island Monday has been lifted.

According to police, the following schools are no longer under lockdown:

Waimea Elementary School
Waimea Public Conversion Charter School
Honokaa High and Intermediate School
Honokaa Elementary School
No other schools were impacted, and students and teachers were never in danger, police say.

The lockdown was triggered before 11 a.m. when a threat was reported by someone not connected with the schools. That person described receiving a threat against the schools through a text message or email, Hamakua Police Capt. Richard Miyamoto told the Hawaii Tribune-Herald.

Miyamoto says police passed the information along to the schools as a courtesy, and the schools decided to initiate lockdowns.

Police arrested a 23-year-old Kona man in connection with the school threats.

Lyle Kawika Pascubillo of Kailua-Kona is being held at the Kona police cellblock on suspicion of three terroristic threat offenses.

Hamakua patrol officers received a complaint from the victim, a 25-year-old xxxx female, who reported receiving numerous threatening telephone calls and text messages from an unknown source. Text messages received by the victim made reference to the threat of violent actions taking place at Honokaʻa School and Waimea Elementary School.

Police contacted officials at the two schools and notified them of the reports received. As a precaution, officials at both of the schools placed the campuses in lock down.

Investigation revealed that the suspect was calling from a residence in Kailua-Kona where Kona patrol officers contacted and arrested him. School officials were notified of the arrest of the suspect.

Pascubillo remains in police custody while detectives from the Area II Criminal Investigations Section continue the investigation.

I have to say how impressed we were with how the school and police handled this and how fricking insane society has become with these copy-cat wantabes. Back in the 50's the big deal was not standing in line or chew gum. Now it's drive-by shootings. What a sad commentary on how degraded this society has become.

Must be the new norm. No one even cares to respond.

Yes, it is the new norm.

The other day they locked down schools here because a man was seen walking on school grounds.

The entire police force came out and tackled the guy

There are no fences and everyone has always cut across from a store on one side of school and neighborhood on the other..

Just one more year left and we move back to the sticks.
