I've got a messed up vertebrae in my L4/5 region (actually off work at moment due to it) and an arthritic one in my neck. Will be looking into it but I'm a bit worried I might get an urge for hay and start pawing my foot.

Was at the doctor with my GF last month for her degenerative disk problem and we asked her doc if he knew anything about this and he kinda gave us blank stare. He got back to us a few days later and said it was indeed a viable option for her recovery.

Now, if we could get the insurance company to cover it...

I apologize in advance if you have answered this...after reading super long threads today I just want a simple answer. Are you familiar with facet injections, and is Prolotherapy as painful? Thank you I have had 4 years of back injuries now that I would rather not have surgery for, but I will if the shots wear off I received last Dec. I am at the point of wanting the pain lowered and am sick of pills.

I'm the AC who was treated by Dr. Eek and Dr. Klein. I have not had facet injections, but I can confirm that the Prolotherapy shots are very painful. The needle is huge and the injections are targeting the site of injury (i.e. deep into your spine). I recommend accepting the Demerol, don't try and man up, as I did for my second round of treatment...that was a mistake. The recovery wasn't bad though, less than a week for most of the pain to subside.

PROLO Therapy ( started in 2000, finished in 2010) has so far, saved me from a 3 level c spine fusion due to spinal cord compression ( traumatic accident) and disk ruptures. I've also benefitted by lumbar promo for nerve impingement and am post survey back- 2 times. I do nrdic track, lift weights, yoga, pilates. I was always atheletic and prolo is MAGIC. My quality of life has never been better despite having very *scary* MRI's. Prolo is great for knees and anywhere that instability or laxity is an issue. Glad that you benefitted also. I needed quite a bit of prolo. I'm hyper mobile so laxity is an ongoing issue for me. The pain relief is immediate and in my case, it's saved my mobility.

It depends entirely upon the nature of injury causing the pain. Proper diagnosis of soft tissue injuries is very difficult, this may be one reason Prolotherapy is sometimes looked at as quackery in the medical community. It worked for me, but I was correctly diagnosed with torn ligaments in the thoracic region. I can't say one way or the other if it will solve low back problems, but I think it's worth a look.

re: pain....DEMEROL for Prolo? Absolutely uneccesary ! I've had tons of promo and never needed any pain med to endure the procedure. The lidocaine used will take care of it quickly ...sometimes post promo you'll get sent home with an opiate. I used to get up to 10 injections in a visit w/no problem tho my body so clearly associates this with pain relief...i welcome the sticks. Pro athletes and sports people have been benefitting from promo for YEARs. They used to have to go to Mexico. C everett Koop, old Surgeon General was a big fan of Prolo. He tried to get Insurance cos to consider coverage. As did I ( thru contact with my State Med Director ) . Even tho it elicits the bodies own REPAIR/healing mechain sm and is low cost---Insurance co's won't cover it UNTIL they are forced "to". Surgeons are not a fan of Prolo. It will totally affect their surgical revenue. It is rich peoples medicine which is actually afforable if you find a practitioner. One in Ct is Perry Perretz. ( West Redding, CT) Neural therapy is fantastic, too. It's great for "clearing " surgical scars ( which elininates pain from energy blockages by the scar tissue ) If you want to heal....you have to advocate for yourself. This often means paying/investing in your own healing ---.

Sorry this is my fabulous copy and paste job. Santa Barbara is the next county over I will need to see if work. comp. would cover this. BTW I didn't refuse medication during the procedure it was done in the office with drugs that should have put me out and didn't due to my tolerance. Next time I would rather go under. Thanks for the information if I had the funds I would go see those doctors in a heartbeat. The pain would be worth it if in the long run it is lowered

I think the nature of the specific injury and the amount of proliferant which needs to be injected will vary the level of pain. For me, Demerol was always recommended. The one time I rejected it, I was sorry for that decision (but I did save some money :). I was given 18-20 injections during each session.

This is just steroids.

They come in many forms.

I had prolotherapy in 1975 in Oak Park Illinois. It was done by the man who pioneered the technique. Don't ask me the name. It stabilized L5 for many years. They gave me a couple pills before the treatment, I didn't wake up until the middle of the night. The next morning, one of the floor nurses told me it was a 6 inch needle. She said that one time I jerked so hard most of my body came off the bed. I gathered it was a painful experience!

Lol I don't know about you but sometimes GLP gives me a false sense of gloom and doom.

TBH the only reason I read or respond on GLP is for my own learning experiance of a "What If" was to happen. All in the name of entertainment.

Funny how one can use entertainment in a real life scenario.

If you have back pain and try what this thread says, you will in return be in a false sense of healing. Much like a placebo.

I disagree. As anyone who has had severe back pain or disabling joint pain, that's it. Game over. You can't work, you are not good company and can't care for yourself.

You might be looking at endless surgeries and a pain medication addiction.

If this thread points someone in the right direction to do more research and find a solution to their problem or that of a loved one this thread was worth it.

And what would GLP be if it only discussed one topic at a time?

Something for almost everyone here if you are willing to dig.
