Why do you toss inappropriate apostrophes into your writing? You don't understand possessive and just take a guess whether to employ one?

This thread is a good one and the subject matter is very pertinent.

The problem is much broader in scope than simply apostrophes, however. Grammar as a whole has taken a dirt nap in the internet age.

I had been drinking and was in a bad mood when I posted this topic earlier.
It would have been more accurate to say that apostrophes are used for possessive and contractions.

But they're not used RANDOMLY to make you seem more intelligent.

Ok, I actually remember your post on hyphens from a few months ago and I'm pretty sure I commented on it. You clearly did not understand hyphens.

You're right that hyphens are under-utilized but you were going nuts on the subject and using them where they don't belong.

The english language is a beautiful thing. It's not about being nitpicky - it's about RESPECT and NUANCE! I'm not perfect in the language but I care and I try.

Those who follow all the rules, including rules of grammar never have anything new to say.
However the "rule follower" is often found to have a great memory and the ability to spout facts from dusk till dawn.

By that, I mean, when you properly grasp proper English grammar, you can then "go to town" and have ALL the fun you could possibly want with it!!! Just look at my second post, sir—see?...

As for my "Use Hyphens or You'll Get Shot" thread, that I posted last summer?, well, sorry, but I wasn't aware that you'd actually replied on it. OOOOPS!!! Anyway, I think you need to go back on that thread and give me a fair crack of the whip, because I contend that my applications (of the hyphen) were all correct. Like you, though, I just wrote the thread on-the-spur-of-the-moment, and FIRED it away, onto the front page!!! Yeah, I could've done better, but the point of it all was to point out the "shear lack of artistry" in soooooo many posts that I read on here. I mean, writing is so cool, why not make it look cool, too...?
