Minimum wage now $9 an hour!!!!

you dont get it. they are going to end up with less in the end. jobs will be eliminated, hours will be cut, small businesses will fail, prices will go up. that $9 will be cut down to less than you are getting today. sorry.

No it won't work but we are waiting for our catholic hospital to tell us, "no insurance for you, go get on obama insurance. We'd rather pay the cheaper fine than pay for your insurance." They already have stopped offering retirement benfits at CHRISTUS hospitals for anyone hired after 1/1/13.

People that make minimum wage do not receive tips. The people in the service industry that receive tips are paid less than minimum wage.

No the majority don't get it and that is exactly what the government is counting on, people not being informed or educated on anything. If you are uninformed and uneducated on common issues, you are right where they want you. A lamb to the slaughter and all the while supporting what they are doing because it "sounds good" to you. We can only be mislead if we are uniformed and uneducated.

It has never worked in the past. This is far from the first time they have raised the minimum wage. All it did every single time was raise prices to the consumer, it's a proven pattern.

Raising a minimum wage will always destroy low paying jobs. This will lead to more people on unemployment benefits which results in a net loss of productivity and wealth of the nation. This is basic economics but I see most have failed to understand these simple concepts.

I don't know what you people think that the next level up from minimum wage pays. I'll tell you, about $9 an hour.

Look it is a fact that since 1971 wages in general and the minimum wage in particular have not kept up with the rate of inflation period! If it had it would be well over $15 an hour today. This and the use of credit have been two of the ways that have been used to keep the rate of inflation as low as it has been allowing those who still had funds available to enjoy a decent standard of living. As far as loss of jobs etc. that is all BS the market will adjust to the new reality just has it has done in the past. The problem is that the new adjustment will in effect negate the pay increases thus leaving us right where we were previously.

Go ahead, it will do nothing. People struggled to pay rent at $1.25 and they will struggle to pay rent at $9.00. The rent will just go up to match. But you'll feel good about yourself, just like they did when they raised it to $2.25.

Meanwhile inflation happens. A scam that essentially steals people's savings without them knowing. A scam to pay off debts with cheaper dollars.

Y'all keep buying the same bucket of swill over and over again.

Why does Obama have to be dumb for doing this? He's obviously a smart, educated man. Maybe after unemployment rises more people will depend on him, then he's succeeded in justifying his role as the spreader of wealth.

They don't get it, I tried to explain it 9 pages back. Yes, hours cut, people fired, raised prices or shut down the business. That's the reality.

They think that this will hurt "the rich", but in reality it will hurt small business owners the most. AND it isn't just the entry level workers getting the raise - usually every employee across the board gets a raise because everything has to adjust upwards. Most small businesses I know are barely hanging on as it is, especially with the other new taxes/penalties, this would do them in.

Well according to most of you we better get used to being payed and treated like slaves.

If raising the minimum wage is such a bad thing are you suggesting that we should lower it more ?

And one thing im sure we can all still agree on living off minimum wage is next to impossible.

I went and got a trade, two infact. Heating and air and Automotive. 2 years of school for each program.

The cost of living (yes your burgers) are rising regardless if the minimum wage increases or not. That is one of the main reasons minimum wages get raised, to account for inflation. Shits getting expensive.

9 dollars an hour seems a fair wage

but it should be a state issue, some states have higher wages, some lower

im in las vegas, it's 8.25 an hour min wage. Last time i worked min wage 9 years ago, it was about 5.25 or so.

9 dollars an hour is SHIT..that's 360 dollars a week, before taxes


just enough to scrape by with a kid and wife, if she is work also at a similar wage

37 states now have wage over 8 dollars an hour since 2008
