Quoting: Anonymous Coward 32720070 I made the same post a few pages down, people don't get it. Banned as usual. “It is far easier to be a weakling than to be a Real Man. Were the Earth less harsh or the circumstances of life less austere, man would destroy himself before the shrine of the languid goddess. Only Real Men can with safety destroy the tangled forests and wilderness of Earth and make from them gardens, but will those who inherit the gardens be Real Men? The law decrees that they must be, or the wilderness will reclaim its own.” |

No the majority don't get it and that is exactly what the government is counting on, people not being informed or educated on anything. If you are uninformed and uneducated on common issues, you are right where they want you. A lamb to the slaughter and all the while supporting what they are doing because it "sounds good" to you. We can only be mislead if we are uniformed and uneducated. "Knowledge is power" is so very true and they can't take your knowledge away from you. |

This is far from the first time they have raised the minimum wage. All it did every single time was raise prices to the consumer, it's a proven pattern. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 34318509 United States 02/13/2013 08:36 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Raising a minimum wage will always destroy low paying jobs. This will lead to more people on unemployment benefits which results in a net loss of productivity and wealth of the nation. This is basic economics but I see most have failed to understand these simple concepts. |

If it had it would be well over $15 an hour today. This and the use of credit have been two of the ways that have been used to keep the rate of inflation as low as it has been allowing those who still had funds available to enjoy a decent standard of living. As far as loss of jobs etc. that is all BS the market will adjust to the new reality just has it has done in the past. The problem is that the new adjustment will in effect negate the pay increases thus leaving us right where we were previously. |

People struggled to pay rent at $1.25 and they will struggle to pay rent at $9.00. The rent will just go up to match. But you'll feel good about yourself, just like they did when they raised it to $2.25. Meanwhile inflation happens. A scam that essentially steals people's savings without them knowing. They don't get it, I tried to explain it 9 pages back. Yes, hours cut, people fired, raised prices or shut down the business. That's the reality. They think that this will hurt "the rich", but in reality it will hurt small business owners the most. AND it isn't just the entry level workers getting the raise - usually every employee across the board gets a raise because everything has to adjust upwards. Most small businesses I know are barely hanging on as it is, especially with the other new taxes/penalties, this would do them in. |

Quoting: <ambiguous> Here in Aus it's $15.96 per hour but is dependent on age and etc as follows: For junior employees, the minimum rates are: Under 16 years of age $5.87 At 16 years of age $7.55 At 17 years of age $9.22 At 18 years of age $10.90 At 19 years of age $13.17 At 20 years of age $15.59. For apprentices, the rates are: Year 1 of apprenticeship $10.22 Year 2 of apprenticeship $12.08 Year 3 of apprenticeship $14.87 Year 4 of apprenticeship $17.65. We wish !! Hell, I'm 44 and I don't make $15.00 hr. If it wasn't for my wife's job we would live in a box. I went and got a trade, two infact. Heating and air and Automotive. 2 years of school for each program. But, fucking up you back and having surgery kinda puts a damper on a manual labor career. |

That's amazing. this site does not represent the american people, and what people say on this site does not represent reality. people here get off on disaster and doom and gloom. of course they will make every situation seem as negative and bad for america as possible. it's what makes them feel better about themselves. either they couldn't get ahead on their own so they have to blame someone, or they are selfish assholes who will bitch about anything because a black guy is president. simple as that |

Last time i worked min wage 9 years ago, it was about 5.25 or so. 9 dollars an hour is SHIT..that's 360 dollars a week, before taxes just enough to scrape by with a kid and wife, if she is work also at a similar wage bachelor, it's DOABLE...but nothing..you are looking at less than 17,000 a year, 9 dollars an hour is povery level 37 states now have wage over 8 dollars an hour since 2008 i really don't see an issue here now if it was 15 dollars an hour, that would be a serious issue with companies. |
