I swear some people are dumber than a bag of bricks when it comes to economics.
If 3 workers bring in $250/hour - do you really think that after paying the 3 workers $25, that the owner pockets $225?
No - because out of that $250 comes:
Rent
Electricity
Food costs
Paper costs
Legal fees
Fuel Costs
Insurance - liability, Workers Comp
Employer portion of Social Security
Cleaning supplies
Office supplies
Pest control
Business License fees
Advertising
Credit Card fees
Franchise fees
and more...
After paying for these things, the average franchise owner sees about $14/hour. Hardly the "rich", right? Just middle class, as most are.
If you take a small business who hires 50 people, and they have to pay $2000 more per week they will have to either A) raise the cost of the product, B) lay off employees or C) shut their doors.
BIG CORPORATIONS can absorb these costs, but small businesses cannot. I am telling you know, this will be the final nail in the coffin for the economy and the end of small business.
You raise minimum wage when the economy is strong, not when it is on a lifeline.
