Did you morons even read the article? It says he did NOT enact the kinds of changes propposed by CISPA such as access to private companies information. Instead it improves sharing amoung existing federal agnecies and utilizes NIST to set standards to support critical infrastructure (something that was already underway). [link to news.cnet.com] Yay! Someone who actually reads. This thread should be deleted. Despite broad industry support, CISPA alarmed privacy groups because it would would permit -- but not require -- Internet companies to hand over confidential customer records and communications to the U.S. National Security Agency and other intelligence and law enforcement agencies. And one Great comment on the article. The thing I don't get about the way these groups talk about "cyber security", is that they talk about the internet as if it is a single system, administered by one body. This seems more like a ploy for the government to be in bed with corporations than anything else, just a bit more official now. The proper security of all these various systems is the individual responsibility of the companies (or dare I say government bodies) that operate them. As far as the white house legislating through executive power, well, that is another issue altogether. The ACLU sure does pick some odd things to cheer. |
WildFlower User ID: 24542805 United States 02/13/2013 06:50 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | snip: In fact, if the rumors are correct, President Obama will mention cybersecurity sometime in the State of the Union address tonight, and then will sign the executive order the administration has put together on Wednesday morning, to coincide with the reintroduction of CISPA in the afternoon. Basically, the use of the executive order is to put pressure on Congress to do something. There is still a hurdle from the Senate, since it supports a very different approach, but there's about to be a very, very big push on cybersecurity. Either way, it's incredibly disappointing that CISPA's supporters didn't take the time to make some rather basic changes to protect privacy. Instead, they effectively use some broad language to more or less wipe out privacy protections on very broad terms, while doing nothing to keep any data shared from being further shared with other parts of the government. In other words, it's a ticket for widespread surveillance of Americans (as if we don't already have enough of that). Fight For the Future has set up CISPAisBack.com to try to let folks in Congress know that bringing back the same extremely flawed bill is a mistake. That's one way to contact your Representatives, though just calling their office directly would also be a good idea. [link to www.techdirt.com] |

I disagree and here is why: Anyone who defies the 'authority', be it police or any 'laws' while standing up against the tyranny is immediately put down and eliminated from society and kept under lock and key. Now if everyone did that at the same time it would be a different story. As it is now though, nobody wants to be the one who even attempts to start what is necessary to reclaim our liberties. We will all go down the toilet while being defenseless. Nothing new. Happens to every failed country. Our mistake was putting a communist/socialist in office in the first place who divides based on past anger over a 150 year old tear in our history. Problem is - we all go down with this ship. also "we" didnt do this. its much more likely TPTB committed massive voter fraud to keep the arab Soebarkah in office. Anonymous Coward User ID: 14182660 United States 02/13/2013 08:18 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I think that large companies such as Walmart, Lowes, Home Depot, etc., have given the feds access to their video servers, as well as other customer information databases. No warrants necessary! I started noticing, a couple of years ago, how quickly some suspects in high profile cases were identified and tracked. Invariably, they had purchased items used in their crimes, in one of the big-name stores. The next time you go to Walmart, look at all those cameras on the roof. There wasn't nearly that many just a short time ago. Do they really need that many cameras to protect themselves from liability lawsuits if something happens in the parking lot? No! Are they set up so they can continuously track someone from their vehicle to the front entrance? Yes! Could they possibly even read a license plate as the vehicle leaves the parking lot? Yes! Why? Are they used to identify and prosecute shoplifters after they have left the parking lot? No! When was the last time you heard of a shoplifter being arrested after they had left the property? When you walk up to the sliding entrance door, look carefully at the frame the door slides on, about five feet off the floor. See that little glass dot? That's a camera, too. It takes a very good "mugshot" photo of you, as you go shopping. When you get to the register and swipe your debit card, in front of more cameras, Walmart has a very complete identification dossier built around you. TPTB with a little facial recognition software, along with some data-mining software, could easily and economically build a detailed database of most American citizens. Comforting, yes? As an interesting aside, My girlfriend and I were looking at seafood recipes on the internet, a few nights ago. The next day, Sam's Club sent me an email advertising their various seafood entrees. Sometimes it feels like, somebody's watching me. |
