"Burners" means CS gas grenades intended for outdoor use. They will often start a fire if used indoor, and can be counted on to if you spam seven of them into a wooden room with furniture and rugs. About 20,000 people listened to them discuss burning the house down, deploying the burners, "we have a fire", and then counting down the quadrants of the house as they were engulfed, all before even letting the fire department come close.

So it is a bit odd that we are still reading news articles claiming that they aren't sure how the fire started. 20,000 people listened live to them starting the fire, it is documented.

Wrong. I have personally deployed both CS grenade canisters as well as Smoke grenade canisters and neither has started a fire. This is what they used. AN/M14 incendiary grenade aka "burner". AN-M14 TH3 Incendiary Hand Grenade


The AN-M14 TH3 incendiary hand grenade is used to destroy equipment or start fires. It can also damage, immobilize or destroy vehicles, weapons systems, shelters and munitions.

The grenade filler can burn through homogenous steel plate – even underwater. Burn time is 30 to 45 seconds.

Used by United States Army and Marine Corps to destroy vehicles, artillery barrels, captured enemy weapon systems, fuel caches, and munitions, the AN-M14 TH3 is about the size of an aluminum soda can and weighs 2 lbs.
The main component of the grenade is 600 to 800 grams of thermate, a variation of thermite created by the addition of barium nitrate, which burns for 40 seconds at 2200°C, is capable of melting through 1/2 inch homogeneous plate steel and will also burn underwater. It does not require an outside source of oxygen as it produces its own.

The fuse of the AN-M14 is an M201A1 which is also used with the AN-M83HC white smoke grenade and the M18 colored smoke grenade. The M201A1 has a straight safety lever which rests flush against the body of the cylindrical shaped grenade. The time delay element is a powder train requiring 1.2 to 2 seconds to ignite the main charge. As the firing time for this system is extremely short and it does not explode like an M67 fragmentation grenade, the device is not intended to be thrown long distances to its target, but instead activated and dropped, or set in place before the cotter pin is pulled.

The body of the system is flat gray and the markings, AN-M14 INCEN TH, are violet, but the standard color code for an incendiary grenade is light red with black markings, making its intended purpose easily recognizable.

Yup, that's it. A CS canister does not do what they are implying. Don't believe the hype. We carried 5 of the incindiary ones on our m1a1 tanks in the gulf to destroy the tank should it be rendered inop my a mine or rpg and we had to ditch it. These thigs will melt through anything in 30 seconds.

There is a different type of CS teargas grenade called 'cold' as opposed to 'burner'. The cold grenades use compressed CO2 to discharge the the CS tear gas. They are safe for indoor use.
