His nomination was approved by the Armed Services Committee along party lines.

However, now Hagel must be voted upon by the entire Senate. Sixty votes are needed for approval. There are 55 Democrates in the Senate. Five Republican votes are needed for the nominations approval. The vote might come as early as Thursday.
