Re: Is It Fair For People On Food Stamps To Buy Prime Rib And Lobster While Working Families Barely Survive?
I really don't know why it matters what someone buys with their foodstamps as long as its food. As a matter of fact I am on foodstamps as well. My husband an I get 200$ a month. To make those last the whole month. You must buy the cheapest item you can, you are always looking for the deal because its only 200$. Milk is almost 5$!!!!Plus we are still struggling at the end of the month!!
So if Minimum wage doesn't ever get a raise then how can they ever stop getting assistance!!
& speaking of jacked up prices. Take you a gallon milk jug go to your gas station and pump exactly 1 gallon of gas and see how much gas you really get.lamelame

you know....

since the lobsters are radioactive in alaska,
and full of oil and corexit if they are from the gulf,

and the prime rib is full of mad cow, growth hormone, and cancer causing antibiotics,
and the cows eat dead cows and stand knee high in shit all day and then amonia and radiation is used to "sterilize it",

just let the GREEDY/GLUTTONS eat all they want.
rich and poor.
eat eat eat....
eat it 24/7!

there will be less of these selfish people in the near future.

you should thank God every night you have no food stamps.
that you are not "led into temptation" of such gluttony.
these "luxuries" will kill you.

ps. i love to watch the obamas and their obsenely wealthly
friends stuff their faces with lobster and prime rib at their fancy parties!

revenge is sweet.

Today at the Walmart grocery I watched the woman in line in front of me, wearing big gold hoop earrings, custom painted nail extensions with drawings on them, braided hair extensions, new knee-high leather boots with designer jeans, buy $217 dollars worth of Lindt and Godiva chocolate boxes, heart shaped, with a Delaware SNAP/EBT card. After checking out with my cabbage, potatoes, carrots and collard greens and a gallon of milk, , I noticed her just climbing into a new BMW 5 series with temp tags.....

hell yea...

food stamps buy all that good stuff in the store.

i've hosted crab leg feasts on food stamps.

you only care in the beginning...

...but after tasting that first filet mignon you begin to understand the fairness of food stamps.

Re: Is It Fair For People On Food Stamps To Buy Prime Rib And Lobster While Working Families Barely Survive?
Way way back in the 1980's, I was in junior high school and all the kids from mixed socioeconomic backgrounds started attending the same school at that time.

I remember meeting new pals and kids I wouldn't otherwise.

At lunch I noticed lots of the new (to me)kids had a card that they showed the lunch lady and didn't have to pay for their lunch. I asked one time what the deal was with the card and got a lot of grief over it. I didn't intend to embarrass anyone, I was just an oblivious kid that asked dumb questions.

So I ask my mom (single parent of 3 boys) if I could get a card, too. She got pretty angry at me for even suggesting it. So ultimately, I ate Peanutbutter and Jelly sandwiches and usually a bruised apple every fricken day until I got a job in high school, a few years later.

So nowadays it's very different. There is no embarrassment or stigma with any government assistance. A person shouldn't be embarrassed if they need it for a short time period - That's not what is happening.

Generational welfare recipients know the game. There is no incentive to get off assistance. One politician gains votes by giving out more taxpayer money. It's like that.

I still eat Peanutbutter and Jelly sometimes. But I pay for it as always. Just like my mother paid for ours when we were kids. Lobster: I haven't had it - probably over 5 years ago. Prime Rib: not a fan. I'll eat a cut of roast if I'm in the mood. Modern meat at the Grocery isn't very trustworthy IMO.

Sorry for the long introspection. Truth is, welfare recipients are not going anywhere. And they're not getting off welfare. They'll breed more, yes. And a politician needing votes will be quick to make sure they're getting paid.

This!

And OP I don't know how they can do that on $200.00 a month. If you are talking about steak in general. I've bought steaks for $6.00 that lasted 2-3 meals. That is less than a frozen dinner, or a fast food meal and much healthier.
So what's the problem? you might want to look in the steaks and partake in the good deals. Steaks aren't only $22.00 and above.

Though if you are really wanting to talk about welfare, and the welfare that is breaking us, let's talk about corporate welfare and the self welfare of the government. that's what is really breaking our backs.

Re: Is It Fair For People On Food Stamps To Buy Prime Rib And Lobster While Working Families Barely Survive?
Yes it is FAIR! Food stamp recipients are given a limited amount of money that is only used to buy FOOD. If they choose to buy lobsters and prime rib and spend all their allotted money on that one meal, for the month, that's their choice.
It's that simple. I am not sure where people get the idea that living on the govt is a luxurious, glorious existence.

Re: Is It Fair For People On Food Stamps To Buy Prime Rib And Lobster While Working Families Barely Survive?
I think what sucks is that I get a Bridge (EBT) card and I get to hear people ripping on 'me'- i.e. every person who gets help-yet it's only a select few that really abuse it.

I'm not sure where people are seeing carts full of filet mignon and lobster-I know I haven't! I receive $180/month-it's amazing how fast it goes when trying to eat fresh- I got grapes, carrots, apples, and a grapefruit and it cost over $15...and lasted me 4 days. Unfortunately, that's why a lot of users end up with mac and cheese, ramen, 'crap' food that's high in calories and filling at least for a short time but low in health. I know about beans and rice and making things stretch while being healthy, but most don't-you sign up for a card, and you get one- there isn't a nutritional class one has to take, or a 'How to Stretch Your Food', or "How to Utilize a Crockpot" class...and a lot of people who are on the card have already come from low-income homes where this is simply second generation learning.

Someone earlier mentioned people blowing their $200 at the beginning of the month and starving (or eating off someone else's) at the end-it sucks that the stereotypical EBT user is most likely this one and everyone else gets punished for it. Remember too that there are families with cards, and sometimes this is the only way they can afford a get together for a party. Just a thought.

Re: Is It Fair For People On Food Stamps To Buy Prime Rib And Lobster While Working Families Barely Survive?
Should we all quit working and jump on board the Obama gravy train? Of course I am being facetious, but when you are barely surviving does there come a point when it just becomes easier to give up and totally rely on the government? Today, the federal government runs nearly 80 different means-tested welfare programs, and many state and local governments have their own welfare programs on top of that. If you become an expert on those programs and you learn how to game the system, can you live more comfortably than someone that lives honestly and works as hard as they can and yet still makes less than 10 dollars an hour? Now, right from the outset of this article, let me make it abundantly clear that I do not believe that most people are abusing the system. As I have written about over and over, the number of Americans living in poverty is rapidly increasing because there are not enough jobs. There are not enough jobs because we are shipping millions of them out of the country to the other side of the globe, and we are also losing millions of jobs to technology. There have always been those that need our help, and because of the foolish decisions that we have made as a nation, the ranks of the poor will continue to expand. But it is also true that there are some people out there that are very brazenly abusing the system. For example, is it really fair for people on food stamps to buy prime rib and lobster while many working families barely survive? People like that are taking advantage of their fellow Americans, and they are making it harder for the people that really need the help to be able to get it.

Unfortunately, we are rapidly becoming an “entitlement society”. Close to half the country lives in a home that receives some sort of monetary benefits from the federal government each month at this point....

If you're that poor perhaps you should be on assistance. Sounds like you're just jealous. I'm not sure why poor people on foodstamps is such a hot topic lately. I guess people are bored and they are easier to pick on. I don't believe you were elected GOD. So get a life and have some prime rib and lobster it might make you happier.hf

Maybe so but the real killer is what breaks the working man's spirit. I have a graduate degree and my own business and I am struggling because people have been stealing/not paying me; it hurts and makes me question why I work at all. If I was not forgiven by the grace of God and didn't believe I would answer to Him one day, I would quit.

I saw a lady at Publix buy a $37.00 cluster of snow crab legs 2 weekends ago, along with 2 keebler elves bags of cookies on her SNAP/EBT card. I ate leftovers that night.

Then she bought $28.00 worth of alcohol and candy on her card. She was wearing scrubs so I am sure she had a job that paid over $10.00/hour.

I get what increase of SSI and EBT is for-it isn't to help those who "need help" but rather to create false entitlement, dependence on "daddy" (slave mentality) and to break the will of the very people that created and sustain our national economy. They're doing an excellent job.

Re: Is It Fair For People On Food Stamps To Buy Prime Rib And Lobster While Working Families Barely Survive?
No, it isn't fair.

Nothing pisses me off more than seeing someone in line at the grocery store buying things like Red Bull with food stamps.

My liberal friend says "oh so Red Bulls are only for rich people?"

Certain food items are luxuries, not necessities.

I'm against any form of welfare/entitlements, but I can understand there being a safety net so your basic needs are met and you don't die.

However, if you are poor/broke and relying on welfare, it is safe to assume you SUCK at managing money, and you should not be given a gift card to spend at your discretion.

Welfare should demeaning, something people don't want to experience. Stand in line and pick up your monthly rationing of bread, rice, beans, and meat.

I know some people really need the help but most welfare recipients I know are nothing more than deadbeats. I'm sick of having my paycheck garnished to pay for deadbeats.

Or you lost your job and the money you were making barely paid your bills so you couldn't save . Be careful when you judge people. Most people are a paycheck away from being homeless. You need to get off your high horse before you get a nose bleed.

Around here most of them game the system twice, they get food stamps plus go and hit the food pantries also. Why shouldn't those of us who pay for it get angry. I don't get help and I'm barely getting by, and I'm tired of carrying others whose only talents are breeding more rugrats.

Sounds likenyounhigh brow people need to get another hobby besides bashing the poor. Poor people don't enjoy being poor. They are stressed and more the likely are working as hard as they can. I understand their are certain recipients who use the system but to categorize all people who receive assistance as low life's is a stereotypical attack on humanity. I have a good friend who lives in an area were work is not available to her because she doesn't speak Spanish. She would take anything she could get but no one will hire her. When youre standing in line behind an EBT user think about that. Not everyone is using the system, they really need it. I'm sickened by the amount of contempt being expressed here. Just sad....

Just because the government is handing out money doesn't mean that they should have the ability to control what people eat or do in their daily life.

But it really doesn't matter....because the lobster industry has lobbyists, the fast food industry has lobbyists, they all have lobbyists....and they want those people buying their stuff with the food stamps.

That's what Food Stamps are...subsidies for the food producers.

Some folks on food stamps don't believe in food stamps. Unfortunately, when those people were making good money, Uncle Sam taxes it. That limited savings and investments. Now taking 400 bucks a month from Uncle Sam is a small consolation- just a fraction of what they paid in.
