Kirk (WILLIAM SHATNER), permission to name one of Pluto's moons, "Vulcan", at any time he sees fit, in honor of Mr. Spock. (LEONARD S. NIMOY) Quoting: ehecatl The rocket man video is one of the funniest things I've ever watched. This was at the 1978 Science Fiction Awards show so here comes their hero Captain Kirk singing about getting high. |

(He probably didn't ask for directions. Lol!!) Is this the story which explains the Seasons, that his Beloved can only be on the surface of Earth for 6 months and then she has to go back underground for 6 months? Quoting: Eggcellent Thanks for posting this, OP, 5 stars and a suggest pin I sent this to pretty much everyone on my address list so perhaps they can forward it to THEIR friends. Not everyone participates in Twitter and Facebook! actually i didn´t want to tell, whoever is interested in those ancient stories will look it up for themselfes anyway ;) it´s better than any soap opera, and with all those relatives and sometimes incest ongoing, it is a bit difficult to explain. (btw, same goes for the indian hindu mythologies of the "Ramayana" - which are about god Rama/Shiva/Vishnu, as they are somewhat all the same). back to Orpheus - this myth actually incorporates the "immortality of the soul" - and i am going to tell the "classic" version, of course there are many different endings out there: So...as he was a very talented musician (sang and played his so-called Lyra, which is like a little harp) and they liked his singing and playing very much, Hades and Persephone put up only one condition for letting Eurydike go back to the upper world with him (aka arise from the dead ;)): he had to go first and wasn´t allowed to look back on their way out. as he didn´t hear the footsteps of his Eurydike on their way out, he turned his head despite better knowing - and saw her being drawn back by Hermes into the underworld again... So he had to go up alone and he became a bitter man. From here, the story knows 2 endings; In one, he turned that bitter, hated women really much and did find a cruel death(he was torn apart). His head was thrown in the river Hebros, swam - still singing and with his Lyra until Apollo once told him to stop it! - through the Aegean Sea and was washed ashore on the island of Lesbos where his head is said to be buried. In the other, he became a bitter man, did find death soon and went down to Hades again. But being just a "shadow" of himself besides the "shadow" of his beloved wife down in Hades was just a small consolation to be together again... Edit: the 6-months-upperworld/underworld-cycle is Persephonnes´ story, as this was the agreement made between Hades and her parents. Her Parents were Zeus (who was ok with Hades kidnapping his daugher at first) & Demeter (who was so sad about the loss of her daughter, she forgot to grow crops - and this was really going to become a problem!), so something had to be done; first, Zeus tried to kidnapp Persephonne back but didn´t succeed as she couldn´t leave there anymore because she already tasted some fruit down there with "underworld forever" sideeffect. So the other solution was this agreement. Last Edited by Doomina on 02/13/2013 10:28 PM |

A friend of mine mom's told me she met him a few times when he would visit his mom in a nursing home in Boston. Nimoy came from a regular working class type background, in fact his old neighborhood was destroyed during a massive urban renewal project in the the 1960s. His mom was in a regular nursing home in the neighborhood where she still lived even after her son became a known TV actor from Star Trek. Very down to Earth guy. |

Name it Jobs. Things worth naming should be named after great people, though, one could argue that Spock was an influential character... Idk, it's up to you. |
