How Many MINIMUM WAGE Hours Does it Take to Afford an Apartment in Your State?

When everybody working at the apartment complex gets a 2.75 raise thencan you guess what else goes up? the rent retard! totaly negating the raise in the first place.

I'd hate to break it to you but we pay for those burgers with our tax dollars. the government subsidizes corn which in turn is sold extremely cheap to the big burger chains to feed it to their cows. that's where the 1 dollar burger comes from.

you idiots have the wrong apartments. i have a 1 bedroom, utilites and heating covered, for 450$ month. thats 62 hours, not 100 something you dum fucks.

Kids can have the bedroom while the parent sleeps on a fold out bed in the living room. Before that would happen though the parent would probably have state assistance for at least a two bedroom with food stamps and all medical paid.

Min wage full time job = $1160/month

My 2 bedroom apartment (admittedly cheaper than some) = $695/Month.

Hours per month at min wage to afford: 95.862

Site lists: 106 hours/wk or $3074 per month.

I have not seen an apartment going for this rate.

So if 2 people work there would $1625 left over after rent per month.

Of course this doesn't factor in taxes. Water is included in the apartment, and though heat and electricity are not included, this situation would likely qualify for some kind of fuel assistance program for winter.

If a kid was involved, there could be up to $200 in food stamps per month as well, more for additional kids.

The only people holed up 10 to a 2 bedroom here are the Nepalese immigrants when they first get here. After 6 months or so it's just to a single family because they all get jobs, cars, and their own apartments.

I mean, I know times are hard for people and the system is rigged to keep the masses down, but gross exaggerations like this site discredit "the cause".

Who the hell works for minimum wage anyways? Even Burger King pays new hires 3 dollars over minimum wage.

I don't know a single landlord who wouldn't toss you right out of an apartment, or charge you MORE MONEY, if you bring in more than the number of tenants contracted for in the lease.

This has got to be by design. If we know what raising the minimum wage will do(raise prices and cause more layoffs) then you have to know Obama knows this too. And he only has a short time to do this in. But then he is just a figure head for TPTB. What have they got up their sleeves for us?

I used to earn minimum wage. Most of us did at one point. My first job, summer of 1989, I earned $3.35/hour. The minimum wage jumped up at the end of the summer to $3.85. I am one of those people that escaped being poor. I grew up mostly poor, not totally impoverished, but poor. I put myself through college without help from my parents. I now have a master's and a good paying career level job. I think the minimum wage argument is a red herring. Really, the way out of minimum wage is education. They should be talking about expanding the Pell Grant and forgiving student loans. If you don't ever get an education you are destined to be at the mercy of the minimum wage. I'm not rich but I will end up better than my parents and I hope that my children will be better off than me.

Living with a decent roof over your head and food on the table shouldn't be considered something only of the wealthy...

Minimum wage has not kept up with inflation for the last 40 years. Prices will go up whether minimum wage goes up or not, so there's really no strong argument against it.

In Anchorage, Alaska a decent one bedroom starts at $1100 a month and that is for bare bones.

Alaska is also not a pet friendly state, especially for cats.

Then why do half of U.S. workers earn less than $30 thousand a year? Why are so many workers part-timers with no benefits?

Why work for min. wage unless it's your first job or something after retirement.

Show what your worth. You are only getting back what you put in. Move on and get your shit going and you can make more on your own. Just because they say there is no work.....it can be found and good money can be made.
