I agree with damn near everything you say Brief. I work a minimum wage job though, and I'm not retarded, or a slacker. I'm a computing whiz and I've done my fair share of moonlighting as an electrician for buddies.

I think raising minimum wage is a shit idea. There are two types of people in this world:
1. Those that think they need a job to make money, and
2. Those that make money

My issue is I'm 22 and I said fuck taking out loans for college. I'm a self taught type of guy. I buy books, I read them.

What would you suggest to someone who sees a degree as wasted paper in an economy where 6/10 college grads can't find work in their area?

I thought about joining a union, but they disgust me. I also thought about opening a Pizza Shop, I live in a city, I know the business, been working it since I was 16 for a foreign prick who hates americans basically. I stay mainly because I've been there so long he can't fire me for anything I do, and job security is nice.

Would you open a food business in this economy?

I don't disagree with anything BRIEF has said on THIS thread (Just this thread, hehe), but one point to BRIEF is this:

Many of the people I mentioned above, who got non-liberal college degrees, and are making crap pay out of college, if they had done the SAME THING in the mid90s, they're futures would be secure.

So what I'm saying, is that today, even if you do everything you are SUPPOSED TO, there is a higher chance of failure, at least in the short term, due to the economic /financial problems our country is facing.

One thing though, most of these people I know, thanfully aren't complaining. They are taking what they are getting, living on BARE minimum, and most are paying off their student loans. I think things WILL get better, and those people will be fine.

My point is just that times HAVE changed, and it isn't just the lazy and dumb who arent making ends meet these days.

I don't feel sorry for a homeless person. For a homeless person I feel compassion.

Why the difference?

For the homeless person, every individual choice and decision that they have ever made in life has culminated in exactly where they are today, right now.

They are responsible and nobody else. Due to the fact that they have not taken responsibility for their current situation, and have acted like victims, they are destined to continue as they are.

That does not mean to say that the homeless person has not been dealt a few bad cards in life, but on the whole they have had the opportunity to make any number of decisions and choices along the way, and to respond to those bad cards in any number of ways, all leading to a variety of different outcomes.

All of you complaining and whining about your financial circumstances whether you have a degree or a trade or nothing at all are all responsible for exactly where you are now.

If you want to change your situation you know what you have to start doing.

Most of the people working minimum wage jobs these days have college degrees you fucking twat.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 3987337

They have worthless college degrees if they are working minimum wage. In fact, these people are morons if they got a degree and can only get minimum wage after graduation. They would have been better off not going to college and just working a minimum wage job. At least they would have no debt. They really should have gone to a trade school in reality.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1550123

I HIGHLY disagree with. Here's why: As I mentioned earlier in the thread, the difference between the mid90s to now, is drastic.

In the mid90s, your college degree meant something. It CERTAINLY meant something before the mid90s, as well. We aren't talking liberal degrees. I'm talking degrees in Engineering, Math, Science, etc.

Nowadays, I know MANY people with those degrees, working just a tad over minimum wage fresh out of college. Back in the day, with those degrees, you'd be recruited by top firms and businesses before you had your degree in your hand. It has changed DRASTICALLY.

While your point is true, that yes, today a trade school is looking more appealing than a regular bachelor degree, it SHOULDNT be that way. It certainly WASNT that way, so you can't blame the intelligent youth, who were taught by their parents and society their WHOLE life that in order to be successful, they need to go to college.

Now they get out of college, did EVERYTHING they were told by their parents and society, and they can't even get a decent job.

Sure, I even know a few of them making 30-40grand/year fresh out of college, although those are in the minority. In the mid 90s, the ones makes 30-40grand I know, would be making 40-50grand fresh out of college. And guess what? That 30-40grand those FEW lucky ones are making fresh out of college? Thats comparable to about 20-30grand/year in the mid90s.

Do you see my point?
 Quoting: TheSuperMarket

Of course, I see your point. But times have changed and will keep changing. And the fittest will roll with it. And the rest will work for minimum wage and be happy they can get anything.

And the problem with kids is that they are letting people do all the thinking for them. They aren't being taught to think or else many would not be going to college but to a trade school or just out into the work force for a while to see what they really want to do.

College is a big business and that is why kids are being pushed into from school counselors, teachers etc. And most parents have no clue about college degrees anymore and/or only want their kids to have that so called college experience which is stupid these days. These people are so brainwashed.

So stop living in yesterday. The 90's are over. That is going to get you no where living in the past. You have to live in the here and now and partly in the future to see what you are going to need to live.

Life is full of hard knocks. No one owes us anything and that is the way it is.

Business is about commerse. It is no more just about the employer than it is just about the employee or just about the consumer.

ALL those relationships are in play, sacrifice one and the business fails.
What we have now is the endgame of an adverserial approach. There are constants, absolutes that should hold true no matter what. When one enters into a relationship, the preservation of that relationship is everyones responsibility. That is the key.

HUMAN BEINGS are NOT created to be slaves or tools or profit whores.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 7692882

First off, One person cannot enter into a relationship. By definition a "relationship" requires at least two people. Hey, we keep hearing about how what two consenting adults agree to is their own business. Why doesn't that apply to the employer and employee? If an employee is willing to work for what an employer wants to pay, how is that anyone else's business?

$9/hr minimum wage gives you how much in actual money - $6/hr??? Probably less but let's round if up to $6.

Nassau County, Long Island, NY

Commit 6 months of your life to living in a 6 person house and slumming it

Commit to eating rahmen, pasta, beans, for 6 months

Commit to not going out on the piss for 6 months

Commit to not spending your money frivolously for 6 months

Commit to working all the hours under the sun for 6 months

Commit to saving as much of your wages as possible.

- Then get the fuck out of the country on the cheapest flight possible.

- You may not have a load of savings, you may not know where your next bit of income may come from but you will survive, you will always survive.

- There is so much to do and see and be part of out there in the world.

- You will find that if you "let go" a little and don't try and "control" the outcome too much, that you will find people on your way, and doors will open, and opportunities will abound.

- This kind of journey whether for 12 months or longer will take you to places that you never would have imagined going to in your life. You will meet many amazing people, and have many amazing opportunities, you will be tested and you will come through a stronger person.

- This does not apply to everyone, however if you are between 17 and 30, without a wife or children or a serious relationship then leave

- If you have a degree but no job then leave

- If you have a trade but no job then leave

- If you don't like your job/career then leave.

For what its worth, take it or leave it

All those places offer advancement. If one does their job well, and has the right skills to advance.

So yes, it is a starting point for a career if one so chooses.

Managers at those places make at least 36-40k/yr Which is much higher than min wage.

How does this make sense, when there is section 8 housing galore, all over the place.

I could work 10 hrs a week, at 8.50 / hr., and still be able to afford a pretty decent 2 bd apt, in a decent neighborhood, all through Section 8 Housing.

Re: How Many MINIMUM WAGE Hours Does it Take to Afford an Apartment in Your State?
Pursuit of happiness, its part of the Constitution. Why would a country or system punish the not so ambitious that just want a simple life without all the modern conveniences? Forcing people to live with artificial stresses?

I think nobody enjoys working over 45 hours a week but you have to to maintain some semblance of shelter, nutrition, health, hygiene, and personal mobility so you work more. Stress is mounting to where you come to a point and say is it worth it? Heart attack at 32 is fun?

I hope there is a possibility that the LCD in our society can have the minimum and still live a productive happy life, all of you.

How does this make sense, when there is section 8 housing galore, all over the place.

I could work 10 hrs a week, at 8.50 / hr., and still be able to afford a pretty decent 2 bd apt, in a decent neighborhood, all through Section 8 Housing.

At least thats how it works in L.A.

Yea, here in my part of cali I have a friend with an annoying libtard girlfriend. She works maybe 10 hrs a week doing in home senior care. Makes min wage, but since she has section 8 she pays like 20 bucks a month for rent. She gets foodstamps, has a nice cellphone, a ps3, a xbox, cable t.v

It's sickening how comfy our government has made it to be lazy.

Minimum wage is just a starting point for teenagers and people just entering the workforce or the retired as a hobby, it is NOT designed as a career choice.
 Quoting: BRIEF

Tell that to home depot, McDonalds, and tim hortons which have all said they welcome everyone to start a "career" with them.

The idea is to work your way up the ladder...you don't start as a manager without have the skills and training.

I own several businesses, why?

Because you have no integrity. You didn't get that?
 Quoting: skeptic 8198777

How do you get that I have no integrity, are you stupid? serious question.
 Quoting: BRIEF

Oh, did I strike a nerve? This could be a long list. NOBODY with any integrity would make fun of people based on economic conditions they were born into--like chinese workers. NOBODY with any integrity would call for the wholesale slaughter of a group of people based upon their religion. NOBODY with any integrity would call those less fortunate lazy because they don't have access to the same opportunities as others. NOBODY with any integrity would claim to be a "rebel with MORALS" with such a contradictory history of violent communications.

Okay, your turn. Now try to prove me wrong by doing one of the things I just called you out for...

LOL.. what a dick you are.

Listen you little commie cunt.

i was raised dirt poor in appalachia.. We poached deer and grew a large garden for food. Had no running water had heat only half the winter.

I already know you cannot say the same.

As of today, i own my home, all three of my vehicles, a second piece of property. and everything include therein.

i have a business and make good money doing what I do.

You are a sniveling, simpering little pussy who was brainwashed by the commies to have an entitlement attitude. nothing more nothing less.

Opportunities are what YOU make, not what you are given.

go fuck yourself.
