Quoting: BRIEF And if it is then said person better get roommates or just live at home. Where do people get that they are owed anything? There should be no minimum wage. Let the employer set the amount and then a person can decide if they want to work for them or not. I moved out after graduation at 17 with a pile of cash that I had saved from working all kinds of odd jobs and the last two years as an apprentice...money has never been a problem for me because I'm intelligent, but those that are dumb or just lazy get the default minimum wage. Quoting: BRIEF Adjusted for inflation from 1960 til now minimum wage should be $16/hr. So what was good for teenagers in 1960 is good as a minimum wage today. So yes you are correct. But it doesn't change a thing. I seem to see countries that are raising their wages have higher growth. Australia, Canada, China. And countries that have stagnant wages having stagnant growth. United States, United Kingdom, Germany And countries that have shrinking wages in recession. Portugal, Spain, Greece. Any way you slice it. I'm right. LOL, what's the minimum wage in China? Funny you didn't mention the other two Brief. Australia $16+ per hour. Canada $9.75-$10.30 Both of which are higher than our $7.25/hr and both of which currencies are higher than ours. So again why does that work for them but not the US? The answer is that inflation isn't immediate. There is a lag in the increase in money and the inflation that follows. During that time people can buy more stuff. So again. Why is every country on the planet with a growing economy raising their wages? You can't answer that because it proves you wrong. Whats the cost of living in Canada and Australia compared to where you live? |

I know people who've worked in textiles and furniture their entire lives--we're talking 30-40 years. YOU try getting a job in a depressed economy with such a specialized skill-set when the only jobs available pay minimum with the "opportunity" to advance up to an additional $.25 and hour every other year. It's how capitalism works, fucker. Employers run their business to retain the most profit for themselves, and if they can get the same output from $7.25/hr. from a 16-year old as they can from a 45-year old with three kids to support, who the hell do you think they're going to hire? Just because you come up with some witty retort on the interwebz doesn't give you the moral high ground. Well it all boils down to the question "what is the purpose of a business"? Easy answer - to make money for the owner. Not to create jobs, not to benefit the community, not to sell something. THE PURPOSE OF A BUSINESS, fucknut, IS TO MAKE MONEY FOR THE OWNERSHIP. That goes from a kid's lemonade stand to a multi-national corporation. Its too bad that you've lived such a sheltered life that no one has ever apparently pulled you aside and told you that.
