People were joking at the store today about the fly by. An old man said "we're all gonna die" 'course he was buying a gallon of alcohol at the drugstore in the am no less. I feel strange today like something is off.....might be nothing.

I don't think they could know for certain, but they can certainly figure the mathematical probability of the asteroid hitting any of the earths satellites. How you ask? Quite simply, although time consuming.

All they have to do is compare the trajectories of the satellites, to the projected trajectory of the asteroid. Anyone with a high school level education should be able to do this, with reasonable certainty, right?

What is your point anyways? Does the article suggest seismic activity on the roid, if so, couldn't it be jolted out of its path? Or does the article suggest there is a correlation between inbound asteroids and earthquakes here on terra firma?

2) No one said this is for SURE going to happen. NASA is observing for the POSSIBILITY of it happening.

Most satellites are geostationary in a fixed position above the equator and far away from the predicted trajectory of the asteroid. Also consider that most of the time it spends passing the earth, it will be at lower altitudes than the satellites. There are in fact, only two points where it meets the altitude (on its way in and on its way out) where satellites are and lets face it, it is a pretty tiny asteroid and satellites aren't that big either.

Asteroid 2012 da14 is a space ship containing an army of homosexual space racoons....the seismic activity is them firing the engines to adjust trajectory.....not for impact but for a LANDING

In this pic the asteriod is spot on. The backround is moving but the asteriod is on a direct path to earth + 50.000 miles. Astronomers must have some very good instrumentation to estimate so precisely.

many of these "rocks" are a clump of objects held together by gravity and not a solid mass

Its trajectory will change quite dramatically as a result of the gravity of the Earth but far too little to be "captured". However it will be enough to cause all sorts of internal stresses and strains within the asteroid. Again calculations show that the stresses are no where near enough to pull it apart, only to possibly cause the "wobble affect" being discussed.

The US government is going to bypass congress again, declare war on the asteroid and deplete it of it's valuable resources as to fund another war on innocent people.

Judging from the article, it has to do with the gravitational pull. That causes affects on the asteroids thrusts, and thus small, seismic activity occurs. Nothing really significant to anyone outside of the astronomy academic community.
