Since this thing is supposed to be at it's closest as it passes over Indonesia, what are the odds of it waking up the sleeping giant Toba?

Might be some interesting times ahead...

I believe the early time is when it will start to become visible to us southern hemisphere guys, the observatory camera goes live in approx 10 hrs which I expect is when its going to be around its closest.
I think slooh is just wrong or using a dif timezone.
The standard timing should be in UTC time which seems to confuse a lot of people.

I put approx times on first post

Were the meteorites in Russia 'companions'? Can we not see the smaller ones??
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 34417457

No. The meteor in Russia was traveling in a completely different direction. Not only did it hit a northern latitude, but it came from the direction of the sun which is why it wasn't seen beforehand.

Re: DA14 Asteroid visual tracking site - LIVE links
CNN just had one of NASA's folks on there. According to them this wont even be near the satellites. In fact it will be on the outer area, and no wheres below them?? How many times are they planning on changing their minds on this?? Where before it was going to go between us and the satellites?? Are we all missing something here? Then they were talking like they were the ones that found this asteroid. Thought that was Spain?? What they can't remember anything today??

There's 2012 DA14:
[link to i319.photobucket.com]
I took this picture just a short while ago, after the meteor hit. You can see 2012 DA14 as a small white streak right in the center of the image. It's right where it should be.
