Each was from a different number, mostly were local. Many were at early hours in the morning. A few left text messages or voicemail. Then they switched to mostly Spanish or Chinese speaking callers. I always let them go to voicemail and never called them back. They gradually stopped calling. No idea how they all got my number or if it was a glitch in the system. Quoting: Instant Karma They high jacked the prefix.. only appears to be a local numbers. |

Quoting: weasel keeper My phone dials others so often that I actually pick it up and act like I dialed on purpose rather than say I didn't call. |

If I don't recognize the name on my caller ID I don't answer the phone. No exceptions. And if I'm not expecting anyone at my door I don't answer. Yeah, well I got news for you guys saying "just don't answer the phone if you don't recognize the number" --- I tried to call my mother today and the phone call ended up connecting to a guy in SALT LAKE CITY (she lives in Kentucky). I know absolutely that I did not misdial because I selected her number from a menu of numbers that had called me. I didn't know that it misrouted the call untill minutes later when I looked at the (MODIFIED!) menu. All I knew at the time is I was trying to call my mother and I reached some weirdo drunk schlub who sounded thuggish, and there was muffled female screams in the background.....WTF I though somebody was kidnapping and killing her! |

Yep. Just like what happened to me. My sister called my house and someone else answered. A week or so ago, I called my sister's phone & got the voicemail of someone I didn't recognize. After I hung up, I pushed 'redial' and was then connected with my sister. |

weasel keeper User ID: 34419669 United States 02/14/2013 09:49 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | In the past 20 minutes I've received 3 calls from different area codes... each time there is silence. Quoting: pinkshirtguy Called back all 3 and all 3 have said they did not call me... I imagine its my friends fucking with me, but what better place to check to see if anyone else is getting things like this than here... Well? Bueller? Bueller? I get a few calls a day...very annoying. I have renewed my "do not call" information, but to no avail. In the past 4 years, the calls have increased. That "do not call" list was once enforced by the government, but they don't care anymore. The calls I receive are from various area codes. They once were identified on caller ID as "Out of Area," or 1-800 numbers, so I didn't pick up. Now, they come from my area code plus various other area codes. When I answer, there is silence, but then a recorded message comes on, and they're giving me a discount on something. Today I was "chosen for"...probably lowering my credit card bills, but I hung up before I found out. My caller ID said it was from Florida. The government promised to do something about it, and they did....but that was five years ago. From what I was told, You have to renew your phone # with the do-not-call list every year, as it expires in that time. Wild Weasels? You've got to be shitting me! |

They're lining you up to be abducted and and have your mind wiped this weekend. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 4259718 Funny, but not funny. Have gotten calls from a phone number in WDC. Have gotten calls from a phone number assigned to the NSA in Maryland. Funny how a nation that supposedly fought a revolutionary war to escape the control of the King of England, and the Queen Mary, are more under their control than they have ever been! |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 22503387 United States 02/14/2013 09:54 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The other day I got a call from a random number. I answered, and all it said was "you are going to die, diiiiiie, die now, monster, die." It sounded like a recording, not an actual live person. It ended with a high pitch, blood curdling female scream, and then cut off. It scared the hell out of me. I was afraid, and then angry, so I tried to call it back. It immediately kicked over to an operator saying "this line is no longer in service." Fucking creepy. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 6685296 United States 02/14/2013 09:54 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I can explain it. It's a call center. What they do is call you and put YOU on hold until one of their prisoners is available to speak with you. Actually, they 'mass dial' multiple numbers, and the first line to answer gets passed to a rep, then the rest get a dead line unless a rep gets free and picks up. I give them 2 seconds to answer, then hang up. If it's someone who really wants me, they'll call back right away. Call centers won't. . |

Next day i realized it was for a job, they were calling me back to confirm o had got it. $700k per year tax free, full beneifts and a scumpany car just for picking up the phone and using a pleasant voice manner. |

Sometimes they will call and you won't hear anything... Quoting: Anonymous Coward 5315433 This is a prank call using the old woman from the Twilight Zone's "Night Caller." Hilarious! When you answer the phone and hear silence, without putting the phone down, quickly hit numbers randomly on your phone. Then put your phone down. If it is a call centre, apparently it misleads their automatic dialing machine into thinking it is calling a fax machine and it throws your number off the list. It seems to have worked for me. |

I get at least three of those a day and it's always someone who cannot speak good English. It's Pakistani or some Indian fucker! I keep telling them no, I'm not interested but maybe they should consider going to school cuz it's obvious they need the English lessons. |
