KonspiracyKitty User ID: 1295140 United States 02/15/2013 07:31 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Moonshiners makes me sad, because it's a "docudrama", i.e. a depiction of a conglomeration of events, stories, and characters that may or may not have really happened/existed, and it's 100% dramatized with the main priority being entertainment instead of historical accuracy. The people on the show are acting. I didn't know that at first and I'm like, wow, this is a neat show. Then I started thinking about how there are all these people trying to be all stealthy in the woods, or on the waterways with their boats, and they're allowing camera crews with bright-ass lights to follow them around. It's midnight, they're toting around a 20 year sentence worth of untaxed distilled liquor in their little boat, and the law is on patrol a half a mile up stream and they're surrounded by a half a dozen people with light bulbs with enough power to turn night into day and that ain't a bit suspicious? No one sees them? Then I thought about that one guy (Tim?) who is trying to go legit, and how he's obviously not going to be given his license or tax-stamp or whatever to make distilled spirits because he's moonshining on national TV. And he'd also be destroying his reputation since he's supposedly the captain of the fire department. That made me question the legal consequences of doing illicit things for a TV documentary, because I know you see documentaries portraying drug use and other crimes, but I looked into Moonshiners particularly and it turns out it's not real. There are statements from the police in one of the areas where it supposedly takes place saying that if it was real they'd sure as hell be arresting people for pulling that shit. I'm sure if you dug into it some of these people from the show you'd find they really do exist within their communities, like some of the folk in the Amish Mafia docudrama (the black Amish guy in that show was actually arrested in the manner portrayed in the show using clips from genuine news footage, but it's the same thing as Moonshiners.). I want to think it is real, but it isn't. =( Last Edited by KonspiracyKitty on 02/15/2013 07:42 PM |
