Presumably a meteorite explosion in the stratosphere over the village. Rose Korkinsky district of Chelyabinsk region, 20 km from Chelyabinsk. Today 15/02/2013 at 9:00 erupted bright white light to illuminate everything around so that in addition to white light was nothing vidno.Primerno a moment there was a powerful loud bang, followed by a set of small pops. From the impact of acoustic waves smashed windows in buildings, rickety frame. Approximate height of the explosion 30

Meteorite crash in Russia: UFO fears spark panic in Chelyabinsk

A series of explosions in the skies of Russia’s Urals region, reportedly caused by a meteor shower, has sparked panic in three major cities. Witnesses said that houses shuddered, windows were blown out and cellphones stopped working.
“According to preliminary data, the flashes seen over the Urals were caused by [a] meteorite shower," the Emergency Ministry told Itar-Tass news agency

When I saw that large earthquake in Russia today, that the first thing I thought of.

Either the asteroid came down early, or some of its friends got here first !!!

Stay safe, OP !!!! That's frightening stuff. But remember, if you can find some pieces of that thing, you'll be a WEALTHY person.

Could it have been a failed missile test rather than a meteorite? Also it is an asteroid flyby not a meteor.

If there is one more like this then there may be a meteorite bombardment prior to, and after the flyby.

I hope nobody was injured.

my first thought was about how people felt centuries ago when they didn't know about meteorites and witnessed such events they probably freaked out :))) it is quiet impressive !

I bet meteorite hunters are already hunting for the pieces they are worth a lot of money.
