Aristide Torchia User ID: 29901291 Switzerland 02/15/2013 09:06 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Great catch Pancho Villa-5 stars Torchia was born in 1620. He was apprenticed in Leyden under the Elzevir family. After returning to Venice he published small works on philosophical and esoteric themes. In 1666, Torchia published De Umbrarum Regni Novem Portis (The Nine Doors to the Kingdom of Shadows), which was in turn based on the Delomelanicon, or Invocation of Darkness, a work supposedly written by Lucifer and that would allow the reader to summon devils. The Inquisition condemned Torchia for magic and witchcraft and burned him at the stake in 1667. |

The 2012 DA14 is being followed precisely and both NASA astronomers have ruled specialists that may collide with Earth, while not expected Siberia. "It may be a coincidence, but the probability that one has to do with another is high, it may be a piece that goes in the same orbit," said the engineer Belló Miguel Mora, orbital dynamics experts. "It's a very slow fireball, from what I've seen in videos of the event, and also the 2012 DA14 is slow, so I suspect it could be related given the geometry and speed," says astronomer Josep Maria Wheat, CSIC scientist at the Institute of Space Sciences in Barcelona. "Of course it is much smaller than the asteroid that happen tonight." They could be related, suggests, because they are able to release shiny 2012 DA14 for its same rotation and the gravitational effect approaching the Earth and has happened before. "In a few weeks we can define the path of this fireball analyzing the videos, it is difficult, because it is diurnal and have the background stars to do the calculations, but not impossible." from above link [link to sociedad.elpais.com] |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 34452937 That's correct. I think that even if the DA14 asteroid is on collision with earth, it will disintegrate once it goes through our atmosphere. But still can cause significant damage just as this little fragment has caused.... we'll see what happens tonight. PPL in Russia, look up at the skies tonight. If you want the truth... Quoting: Anonymous Coward 34452937 I hope your wrong Well, probably not as the split off of one from the other would perturb the trajectory sufficiently, and also the earth is rotating so a different face of the planet will be presenting. Our orbital tilt would make slight difference in latitude. However, we don't know if the two are just travelling together or if they were once part of each other. It would make a difference. If they were originally one asteroid and recently split, the cue-ball effect might actually change the trajectory of the larger asteroid and cause a direct hit of earth in the next few hours. I guess we will see what happens. |

Wouldn't a detached peace loose speed since the moment of detachment from DA14 and HOWEVER follow (rather than precurse) its very same orbit/path ? |
