True that! I've worked all over contracting in computers and been paid well for it too. No politics to deal with and if things get shitty you can move along!

I'm glad I never learned it... I did take a 3D game programming course but quickly realized I could never do it.

It seemed too complicated, too quickly evolving...

Then, I saw news that they could transform a 3D picture of some object and program it in a game... Technology is moving that fast.

I'm beginning to think the Luddites were right.

There's just the overwhelming demand for faster and faster things, for better technology but where is all that progress getting us?

They said technology would make life easier but I've come to the realization that it's just not true.

OP is right, the USA tech sector has been destroyed for ten years. At first I was surprised but now I see that before PCs ever were born, the evil shits knew they would control the PC game. A US computer programmer has been allegedly caught spending thousands of dollars to outsource his own job to a company in China.

I like telling this story when I was in school trying to be a usefull idiot for the system.

I was in visual basic and the instructor was a total asshole. He thought he was a code god who must be worshipped by all HIS students.

I'm not like that and it shows right up front. This freak show would teach a little of this and that then ask, any questions. No one would ask becaue the bastard would insult you with redicule and disgrace cause he knew it and you little fuckers know nothing so now bow down and kiss my ass you little punks.

ANYWAY, where was I, oh ya, He would go, if no questions then I guess you know it. Well no you dim fuck, we don't and if you wouldn't insult questioners when asking a question, you would find out your an idiot.

Finally after everybody agreed we have to tell this pompous ass why no questions, we elected a spoke person to tell this dim witted array of vb6 snippets to back down.

So, we get him straight on that when we have questions, he leaves the room and we write the Q's on the chalk board. Ya know, that fucker still insulted the questions when he read them off the board.

He had a club of the brightest students who met and if you were not part of his club you were a turd to be toyed with. He later tells us if we want to work in this field we have to get along with him cause he knows all the employers who will be hiring us when were done here.

I finished that class and coded some vb apps on my own. I think I did around 20 programs for download. I asked him once about how to do something in vb and he pretty much told me you can't do that.

When I am told you can't do that, I do anyway. Thats how my world works.

Yes - graphic design. NOT website design, because that's mostly the same shit as programming.

I found that by designing flyers, posters, booklets, cards and so on you get more positive customer feedback per day than you get in a year when working as a programmer.

People still love printed paper. It's a creative job you can do self-employed and its basics are easy to learn.

Have you ever looked at a developers Salary in the Silicon Valley? Check sometime you'd change your statement saying they aren't paid well.

Dude! Focus only on your career. Looks like its time you changed it. There are people whose job for the past ten yeas has been to give injections, take blood tests, drive a taxi or flip burgers.

If you dont like your career, its no one else's fault. Whats the top 1% got to do with your own personal career choices? did they force you to become a programmer? No!

I find it hard to believe some of you get out very often.... myself and all my developer colleagues make excellent money - again WHERE ARE YOU???

french devs are like paid 1000 euro per month and they have to move to china to work, pretty pathetic.

Yeah, we need more intelligent optimizer compiler/profilers.

I don't care if it takes 10 steps as long as the code is tight as if it were manually written in assembly. I would like to see some intelligence automation analysis in the compiler to structure and reuse source code into procedural modules and self document. So sloppy coders are not a issue anymore.

Computer aided software engineering! CASE, it supposed to work.

Have another field of expertise to lean on. I do programming and I do another profession.

Works great. When I get sick of one, I can do the other.

Also when someone wants it cheaper I say here is my price, take it or leave it. They know I do good work so they pay most times.

I have not been without work since 1999 and I dictate the price to everyone.
