I have never ever heard them refer to a Coronal Hole as being SINUOUS. This is new. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 34519729 Everything is NEW these days, Even the NEW WEATHER WORDS. Gotta love the normalizing they are doing to us already. Coronal mass ejections (CMEs) appear to originate preferentially in regions of the Sun's corona that are sigmoidal, i.e., have sinuous S or reverse-S shapes. Yohkoh solar X-ray images have been studied before and after a modest number of Earth-directed (halo) CMEs. [link to ieeexplore.ieee.org] |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 34254401 cmes could come through there at any time. extreme solar maximum. No. It's a part of the sun that's cooler then the rest. The reason why it appears black is because it's "less light" than the rest of the sun. Sort of how black works on a LCD TV. The black isn't truly black, it's just not as light as the glowing parts. Making you think it's black. CMEs don't usually erupt out of Coronal holes. CMEs usually are the result of magnetic mixing at sunspots. But can also occur where there are plasma filaments. Which is where the magnetic field of the sun gets all twisted. |
