Nothing is more oppressive and freedom-limiting than poverty. Poverty is not just a matter of personal failure, but of societal failure. It is everyone's problem. Nothing could be more liberating than ensuring that everyone's basic needs are met. Far from creating an underclass of dependents, this would actually liberate people so they could pursue their real passions in life rather than being subjected to economic exploitation by the capitalist class. Your sophist argument is a disaster in the making. socialism/communism has failed everywhere. Wake up before the camps and firing squads "ensure that everyone's basic needs are met'.....by force and compulsion. Socialism has failed everywhere? Trying telling that to Sweden and Denmark. They are certainly more socialist than we and yet have a higher standard of living. There's a reason for that: progressive policies work. They don't work. What those policies have done is turn Norway and Sweden into moribund static societies. In the long run they will collapse and in the short run it isn't working at anything close to the promises. |
