Re: Animals all over acting strangely. Prediction of an upcoming disaster???
Once years ago I was living in a railroad apt. My downstairs neighbor had a cat who had just had a litter of kittens. I was sitting in my living room when lo and behold, mama cat was standing on the fire escape looking in the window.

I went and opened the window, she brought kitten in and put it under my bed. She repeated all of the above until she had all of her babies in my house.

At that moment I had no idea why she was doing that but I let her. I knew crackhead neighbor wasn't home and he always had unsavory people around so maybe she had a bad experience or something.

Next morning we had an earthquake that shook the whole bldg. I'll never forget it. I thought afterwards that the cat sensed something and went looking for safety.

Re: Animals all over acting strangely. Prediction of an upcoming disaster???
Two feral cats outside have been driving me nuts the past 24. A tomcat and a spayed female, I have known and fed them for years. The female has hurt her hind leg and has been sheltering on my balcony on the second floor for two days and nights. The tom is very friendly to her like a buddy, they may be brother/sister as they are both solid black and about the same age.

Anyway, he jumps up on the balcony last night, he never does that. He sprayed/peed on the overhanging siding (he doesn't usually bother marking around here) so I went out with the neutralizer spray to get rid of the smell. But the female was crouching under it like it would protect her somehow. Then about ten minutes later I found him in my laundry room (off the balcony) which is also very odd for him, and she was crouched behind the water heater.

All of this is very odd, as they usually just show up at the front door for their dinner then just leave or they lay around for awhile and then leave. But all this other drama is decidedly unusual. I was ascribing it to her injury (which is improving today, she is running around now and barely limping.)

Can you shoot the sonna bitch? That works.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 55721

No. He is the coolest cat. I've never seen a tomcat that is so protective, he babysits little kittens. His scent marking behaviour, as I said, is highly unusual.

Last week, my cat went absolutely batshit around 3am. Normally he doesn't do this.

The neighbor's dogs have been barking their heads off lately at random times, too -- also unusual, since they're usually pretty quiet/well-behaved.

Could be nothing -- most likely, it's nothing. But it could be something.

I'm in Phoenix.
 Quoting: Jessica Hell

I'm in the NW Phoenix area also. Have you noticed the disappearance of the Gamblers Quail? (the funny ones with the "thing" growing out of their heads) For the last 6 to 8 months I've only seen a handful of them. Up until then there was never a day when you wouldn't wake up and see a dozen or so running around the ground and then groups and families of them all day EVERY day year round. We never went a day without seeing probably around 50 or 60 pecking around looking for food. Now, maybe two or three a day.

I AM finding a lot of dead hawks and owls around. But that's because the HOA here puts out rat poison. The rats eat it, break out of the trap and get eaten by the birds and coyotes, who then die from eating the poisoned rats. Because of the predators being gone we're over run with scorpions. (I got stung by a Bark scorpion a couple of months ago. The only deadly scorpion in the US. It's the only one that climbs and I got hit over my spine on the back of my neck and blacked out and ended up in the hospital. Isn't poison a wonderful thing to spread around the neighborhood! Thanks again Monsanto!)

My animals are fine and normal.

I think it is just the normal quivering nature of humans that imagine that their own observation is so hugely important that something is going to happen.

Truth is: nothing has, is or will ever happen.

You are a dream dreaming a you.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 33896334

Yeah, there was a whole load of this stuff not too long ago. Even the widespread animal deaths have been explained.

As always, it's isolated incidents that are collected together and assumed they are all linked to the same thing. A fateful end.

How it works is someone will point out that they've noticed animals acting 'strange' (strange to them), and out of the 600,000 odd visitors and thousands of somewhat regular or irregular posters, some will have had a similar experience, where they noticed their dogs barking more than usual etc, and it begins to look like something is up.

Truth is it's simple mathematics. Probability and chance. Out of all the thousands of posters and readers, there's bound to be some who think some animals have been acting strange. The select few who have had a abnormal experience with animals who view this site/thread out of those many hundreds of thousands, will post their thoughts/experience. So called 'evidence' begins to mount up, and before you know, it looks like judgement day is imminent.

Personally, I'm keeping an eye on the pope situation. I think that's the most interesting thing we've got. His resignation followed almost immediately after with lightening striking the Vatican. The prophecies of the last pope. Very interesting stuff and far more worthy of speculation, investigation, and attention.

Then again someone may see that as bullshit, which it could be, but I think my explanation for the 'strange behaviour of animals' puts the pope one step ahead.

My thoughts on strange animal behaviour indicating impending doom?

If animals were to react to such a situation, which is very plausible as we know how animals can sense such things, we would not hear stories of the strange behaviour of some animals by some people on this site.

Everyone around the world would experience such strange behaviour. It would be all over the news. It would be massive, as if such a world wide disaster was actually impending, all animals around the world would be acting strange.

Animals would be gong crazy left right and centre. It wouldn't be up for debate, it would be in your face obvious to all people on the globe.

Add this to my other explanation of what it means, and I really think we can see how nothing is going to come about from these isolated incidents.

I was in Santa Monica for the early Monday morning 94' earthquake. The whole house shook like jello with things flying off shelves, doors opening and slamming shut, the neighbors house collapsed. My German Sheperd and cat just laid there. The cat on my bed, the dog on her bed next to mine. Both of them just looked at me holding the bedroom door open like "WTF's wrong with YOU? and went back to sleep after the shaking stopped.

So NOT ALL animals are sensitive to earthquakes. But my friends with ranches in the valley all swear their horses and dogs went crazy before the quake. They were closer to the epicenter though.

Your explaination of course does not make sense. Nice try to explain it all away.

Re: Animals all over acting strangely. Prediction of an upcoming disaster???
Animals act weird for various reasons. The trouble with these "animals acting weird" threads is that nobody confines it to a specific geographic area and tracks relevant data.
What you get is a smorgasbord from people all over the world chiming in with any random thing an animal in their area did that they deemed "strange".
Animals will act strange for many reasons such as weather, mating, strange scents, something spooks them like an unfamiliar or sudden sound, health issues, and on and on....
Yes animals can act strange and sometimes it is because they sense something such as an earthquake in their specific geographic location. That is the key though - comparing everyone's random "animals acting strange" stories means nothing without context. Someone's dog acting weird in Colorado would have nothing to do with a quake happening in Japan. Birds acting weird in Texas for example, would have nothing to do with if there was a quake in California.
It only matters if there is a compilation of animals acting strange in a specific geographic region in a specific time frame - and ruling out the other common causes why they act strange.
In short, these threads always result in a bunch of loonies comparing random animal tales which are never correlated to actual events in their specific area.

Guess no disaster here in midatlantic

dog normal - snoozing again.

I do feel they sensed the asteroids, maybe a disruption of the earth's magnetic field

a distortion as the big asteroid and its smaller sidekicks sailed by and sometimes hit earth.

It's my best guess - the megapods of dolphins recently may have had something they sensed to be different, so they banded together and were closer to shore.
