I really don't believe his addictions are his problems, I know if his diet was straightened out, or if he took supplements for his high blood pressure then he would be better off ...

His dream of dying scared me tho, I need healthtards!!
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 32254395

Probiotics like yesterday, for starters. I'm just a "healthtard" so take my advice with a huge lump of Himalayan rock salt. Ok? I recommend Realfood Your daily probiotic. It's GREAT. Can't go wrong with garlic and cayenne pepper. Also, he should drink raw carrot and lemon juice DAILY. Here is where you will tell if he's serious or just griping. The lemon and carrot juice will clean his liver and detox his system gently. I don't use wild and crazy shit, so I don't recommend that shit. Okay. These are things that have worked for me.

I know this will probably piss him off and he won't commit, but if can quit the sugary snacks and debbie cakes? Unless he has a liver issue documented by a real physician, or is a confirmed alkie, there is no reason he can't just cut back, right? But the extra refined sugar and white starch/flour has got to go.

More veggies like yesterday. Some meat is fine, it's better than filling up on carbs and sweets. But see if you can get him eating leaner cuts and more vegetables.

Also I would like to say, he is convicted his problems come from drinking and smoking .... I am not however. I believe through a better diet, he can overcome any illness. Or anyone for that matter. Ease lend a helping hand anyone

Sorry to bump you, but the way this statement looks seems you're seeing yourself in a superior position to your dad. "Never tell people what to do"... especially dads. I wouldn't see him or his actions as any type of 'illness', he's just stuck in a rut, like pretty much most other humans working the grind. Try to give some love. Try to show some perspective. Offer genuine help and concern. Try to empathise more than sympathising. Laugh together. Do stuff together 'Let's do something we never do, suggestions on a postcard'.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 32166502

I meant he's convinced that drinking and smoking are his problems. His problems are stress and feelin empty, or having no purpose

I do not believe I am superior. Everyone at heart is spirit, we are all part of the same organism. I will repeat, I am not superior, I am very knowledgeable of metaphysical concepts.

Look the point is that this is an act of love, I wish to help him in anyway possible. I appreciate the advice but sometimes I don't express my feelings well, which is obvious because you took my statement wrong, I do not wish to convey a cocky or superior attitude.

Consumption of that much beer will not only increase your blood pressure, but over the long term, it will also give you diabetes. If he's serious about improving his health, that's the first thing to do, cut out the beer.

Alright mate,

my dad went through similar with blood pressure, drink and all that. I think he then went and took St. Johns Wort and seemed to mellow out. He drinks lots of tea. Proper good green teas etc. are really good.

The thing is though, it's all about the will. If your dad can't be arsed, you can't force the horse to water and make it drink, especially if you're the son.

Ask him if he feels happy. Ask him what would make him happy. Ask him how it involves him and not things/possessions 'no bills to pay'. See if he gives a shit telling you, then find a way of helping. Ask questions. When someone's in the shit and they want to speak, if someone asks the questions, they will. Otherwise just a couple of bottles a night and forget about it...
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 32166502

I really appreciate this thank you so much :)

His main problem seems to be his stress tho, his face is always deep red and something is always pissing him off ... I've been researching fluoride and the pineal gland, maybe with a fluoride free diet and fresh fruits and veggies to combat his body ailments, just maybe he will do a 180 toward better health??
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 32254395

I could write a book on stress with my dad. His blood pressure was so high, face off the scales, he could've pumped nitrogen.

The thing is, it's still taking a while, but we pretty much figured out how his childhood had fucked him up and left scars deeper than space lol. Unfortunately, he decides to deal with it internally (he's pretty good at it, but hey, nobody's perfect). The stress thing comes mostly from dad syndrome 'must', not 'could' [there being no other option as a dad].
It also comes from frustrations that are buried within and never surface. If the shit's in the stomach, you need to go for a shit.

I also recommend the vegetable juices. My sister does wicked ones when I'm back home, they blast you into hyperspace first thing in the morning - WAY better than coffee. She chops everything in, ginger, orange, apple, celery, whatever she can find. They look stodgy, but really take it away.

Instead of talking about all this shit though, just do it. Bring him a glass of something, even just freshly squeezed orange juice. Get him the best pineapple you can lay your hands on, share it, chew the fat.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 32166502

This relates to him so much, he was raped as a child by his step dad and I know if I was him, I would have killed myself years ago. His past really is heartbreaking, but he's still here truckin through life, his only care being me ... I just want to help him so bad if only love could cure his wounds ...

I obviously need to get this garden and fruit veggie thing going, so many people have mentioned it and I don't believe in coincidence!

Here OP

this is a great site

[link to www.earthclinic.com]

maybe your father is actually aware that he has to do something to change or that his death is very soon if he does not

Exactly what I was thinking, and to make it scarier, I psychic told me he would die in 2 years, which was a year ago ... I believe destiny can be changed fuck that psychic but that damn dream he told me about ... Ugh
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 32254395

hmmm.... you must love your dad very much, if he is destined to die young, you must prepare yourself and accept it. sometimes we can try to change things but when it is your time to go, nothing will stop this. hf

I understand, and I know on a grand scale we are all just experiencing our mistakes and eventually find our purpose, but I am still only one person, one person that is attached to his surroundings as in my father and other loved ones...

Re: Hi, I would like some help from my family here at glp, more specifically the healthtards, for my father.
Long list, try earth-clinic for some reading. Smoking damage can be lessened by inhaling 3% hydrogen Peroxide through a nasal mister, high BP can be brought down with apple cider vinegar (I add some baking soda so I can knock it back in one gulp) The site had better directions so do some reading on your own as doing it wrong is worse than not doing it. example is the amount of Hydrogen Peroxide to inhale via a nasal mister. When I smoked and would get a morning cough I would do 3 sprays in the morning and 3 at night and no more as the mist breaks down the tar and nicotine in the lungs and it gets into the body so too much nicotine will kill you. 7-10 was all it took to get rid of the cough and then I would quit for a few months before the morning hack would come back and then the same treatment was followed.

My doc bitched about my BP being 110/170 (little stressed that day) so I did the ACV thing twice a day (3oz) and then she was concerned that it was down to 70/130 so it does work very well but then I have been using it awhile so i can take it 2x a day. Starting out it was 1 time per day as it is also good for cleaning out cholesterol and plaque from veins and arteries and you want that to be a slow removal process or chunks will break loose and get stuck in a vessel in the heart muscle and then you are in real trouble. Slow but sure.

As I have a few cats I also keep some selsen-blue shampoo around in case they give me ring-worm ( a fungus) as it kills fungus so that might help with some rashes.

Hope some of this was helpful but i really stress you do lots of reading to get all the info I left out, like making double sure the top of the mister cannot come off as you have it pointed at the back of your throat.

Juicing raw vegetables and fruit will really help him.

Celery is great for stomach ulcers. You can purchase an inexpensive juicer for around $49 and make a tall glass of juice at least once a day.

If he enjoys it he might want to make it more often. It should be drank as soon as possible because the enzymes are alive and provide amazing energy and also detox too.

I agree with you completely regarding the mind over body thinking. This kind of thought prevents many ailments that otherwise might manifest.

Hope your father can get excited to add juicing to his daily regime. Both of you will notice a big difference in no time.

Ok! Another great thought! So far I have at johns wort to research, and also whole, unprocessed/unfertilised during growth, vegetables and fruits made into a drink. I actually have a friend that does this I will have to talk I him. But thank you this is a grand idea. I was actually thinking of starting my own garden when spring comes around :)
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 32254395

You should definitely start your own little garden. Don't do too much, otherwise you'll be put off. Just do a couple of small things. I did a whole herb garden round my parents' with 18 different types of herbs, some double, some triple, everyone loves them.

What you grow comes from your hands, your energy and your heart. You make your salad. Without you, the salad would not be able to exist, so it works especially hard just for you. :]
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 32166502

THIS!!!!!!!! I've been saying this for years but my mother has always kinda made me feel stupid with her subtle objections, but no more! I'm starting a garden this spring :))))

Re: Hi, I would like some help from my family here at glp, more specifically the healthtards, for my father.
I kicked the crap (no pun) out of colon cancer last year by raising my pH.

This is simple...
I start every morning by immediately guzzling a glass of FILTERED water with about 1/4 lemon squeezed into it. I buy the filtered water by the gallon and then add trace mineral drops to raise the pH to about 8. That super hydrates the body when you need it most. Especially if you drink before sleeping. It's a simple habit to get into and before long you crave it when you wake up. Honest.

Drink as much of the filtered water as possible during the day. NO soda's! NO DIET DRINKS! After only a week or so you don't miss them at all and when you're thirsty and need a refreshing drink instead of sipping just a little water, you automatically slam a whole glass without thinking about it. It also keeps you regular, along with making your stomach feel better in general.

Try to finish the day by drinking another glass of water with the same amount of lemon. But ONLY DO IT IN THE MORNING AND NIGHT! Otherwise it will make your body more acidic. Your stomach needs acidity, low pH, but your body wants to be around 7.4. And cancer HATES alkalinity! It kills cancer cells.

(tap-water has a pH of about 4, very acidic, that's where the filtered water with trace minerals comes in.

There's great, free, "alkaline diet" internet sites. I got a lot of juice recipes from them. If you can get him to, find a vegetable blend he likes and make it every night. I bought an inexpensive juicer on line (not a Jack Lalanne, too hard to clean and too expensive). The best are the screw types but they cost more. If you get a centrifuge type and find you're really into juicing, you'll wish you had a screw type instead.

Make the transition away from "sides" of fries and chips and stuff. Instead do a salad with his favorite stuff. Eat as much raw food as possible. It helps the stomach enzymes and digestion.

I could go on but I think starting slow with just the water thing, then juicing, and more raw foods is an easy jumping off point. I'll bet you'll see a change by just doing the water first.

When my GI went back in to get the last and biggest cancerous polyp, there were NO cancer cells left at all. The doc couldn't understand it. I told him about my diet change and he just said "well, *maybe* it had *something* to do with it" like he was jealous or maybe even upset that he wasn't going to make part of the 1.4 million avg per cancer patient off me.

I'm 54 (look 35) by the way. My Dad made it all the way to 83 smoking 2 packs of 100's menthols since he was 17 and drinking several bottles of cheap booze a week. BUT he always had a garden and ate tons of fresh vegetables his whole life. I think that's what kept him going. Leafy greens are one of the best ways to raise your pH and keep it in the alkaline range. I juice them every night along with fresh ginger, an apple, cucumber, celery and a few carrots. IT GIVES ME A BUZZ similar to a cocktail. Enough of one to make me crave my juice like an alcoholic craves booze.

It's hard to watch someone you care about who works hard fall apart. GOOD LUCK... (sorry about the length but when I get a chance to talk about my life being saved by me taking charge I can't stop)

One more thing. When you juice like what I do, whatever you put in your system before and after gets absorbed more efficiently. So you automatically drink less, because it takes less booze for a buzz (or even a *toke*, honest).

OP, may I suggest one small thing that may really help, along with the great suggestions above? Your dad is clearly trying to medicate his pain and is obviously depressed. Please try 10000 IU per day of Vitamin D3 along with a better diet and hopefully less alcohol and smoking. The alcohol is depressing him more and really working against his healing. I do certainly understand what he is (perhaps subconsciously) trying to do, I was there. I was medicating losing my virginity to a date rape. I stopped the drinking (still smoke cigs though...not a lot). The Vitamin D was a miracle for me- when I didn't know better, I allowed doctors to medicate me with antidepressants which did the opposite of what they are supposed to do! A wise therapist gave me lightbox therapy and it worked, for the same reasons the Vitamin D works. AND IT WORKS. What an awesome substance it is. Also good for your heart, bones and helps prevent cancer. You really don't have a lot to lose by trying it!

a liver cleanse will improve his skin conditions
diet is key what we eat and don't eat makes a huge difference. He should cut out the booze reduce his cigarette smoking or even quit if he can but definately reduce to maybe 6 a day. As for the pot, no real harm there, but he should maybe just have one joint a day, of course after he's home for the night

Yes I will absolutely add it to the list, but can't vit d be obtained naturally through fruits and veggies?

I think it's hard to get the amount of Vit D from food that you need to really kick the depression. Foods rich in D are number 1, of course, but supplements will ensure that you are getting enough to do the trick :)

ETA, rapists should get the death penalty IMO.

Black chia seeds to lower blood pressure and reduce bad cholesterol. They also help you feel fuller so you might eat less, hence aiding with weight loss. Everyone in my family gets chia seeds every day, including the chickens. I mix it with vanilla yogurt for the kids (with a crumbled Oreo cookie added, too, they don't even know the seeds are in there) add it to salads and Dijon mustard for the adults. You can just eat them raw, but they really don't have a flavor. High in omega 3's and a good source of fiber.

He needs to detox his liver. Renew Life has a great supplement for this. Now that I think of it, they also have a support supplement to help when people quit smoking. The liver cleanse is excellent. Haven't used the smoker cleanse myself, so can't comment on it personally.

Re: Hi, I would like some help from my family here at glp, more specifically the healthtards, for my father.
I think it's hard to get the amount of Vit D from food that you need to really kick the depression. Foods rich in D are number 1, of course, but supplements will ensure that you are getting enough to do the trick :)

you can get Vit D from fruit but just how much are you getting? Apple peel is a great source.

Vitamin D3 - Suppliment take 1,000 IU's per ever 30lbs of body weight, get out in the sun as bare as you dare, that is how we naturally get our Vit D, it will help with his depression as well as his general health.

kid you are going to have tons of info to pour over lol
as whacked as GLP is people are quick to help a stranger; having said that if you have any doubts of what you're hearing then check it out yourself. I might add to stay the fuck away from medical doc's all they can think with is a RX pad. EVERY drug has side effects. As for "dads" blood pressure, the booze and cigarettes are helping. Get some coconut oil and use it in place of butter, cocunut oil will solidify at room temps but your body is much warmer and the oil remains liquid it will clear arterial plaque resulting in better blood flow. No more salt table salt is very course and contains crush rock/glass that scratches away at your arteries your bodies nature response is to lay down layers of cholesterol to protect those arteries and around and around we go til those arteries no longer function as they should. If he must have salt then choose organic sea salt

Search online for food-grade DE for internal and external use... Diatomaceous Earth. God's miraculous dirt lol

-Improves vision, reduces fibromyalgia & sensitivities
-helps with candida, fungus, improves finger/toe nails, hair

-known to add bone mass and heals osteoporosis
-Improves liver function, cures pancreatitis and kidney diseases
-Prevents migraines, dizziness, head fog
-Energy boosts

I've taken DE for a couple of years.
The kid said his/her dad had ulcers the DE will have him buckled over in pain. I would not recommend it if you have ulcers. I imagine it would be terrible to take for anyone with IBS

Fast. Water fasts. You're body heals so much during that.

But be careful. When I did my fast, I ended up having to go the the hospital because my potassium dropped to dangerously low levels and my resting heart rate was at like 150 - 160 BPM....

Before anyone does a long water fast I suggest getting bloodwork done. Because my potassium levels were already low, my body didnt have enough reserved to keep me going throughout the fast. So making sure all your levels are in a good range before undergoing a fast is advisable.

He's your Daddy, and I know you must love him dearly, otherwise you'd never have posted this. I'm in the health care profession, and I've loved people who had the lifestyle of your Dad. He's killing himself, with his own actions. I don't know whether or not you can get through to him or not. His eating habits will have little or no impact on his health if he continues to drink and smoke the way you say he does. All you can do is let him know that you love him, and that you'd like to have him in your life for many years to come. I hope your efforts aren't one of futility.

Hm.. probably his liver is strugling a lot because of the alcohool.Skin issues can just be an indication on liver malfunctions. It is not easy to change the way you live for years, however if he wants to be alive in the next 10 years, he should sop the damaging life-style.

Everyone has great thoughts and ideas I can see.

I was just taking in to consideration how stubborn people can be and the best way to ease into a healthy regime. Baby steps, if you're dad's like mine was. Start simple and when he starts feeling the difference he might be motivated to jump into fasting and better things like that.

Hope the best for you both...

I would add meth to the list of things he does. Leave him alone, visit if you want.

The smart thing to do: Go to a health forum, ask a doctor, or at least someone who isn't insane.

The glptard thing to do: Ask a forum full of schizos for important advice.

Thanks for clarifying regarding ulcers, good point - I was thinking along the lines of blood pressure, circulatory and respiratory with respect to drinking/smoking.

On that note, I do agree with the poster who mentioned water fasts to help give the stomach time to heal from the ulcers.

True - skin legions can be a direct result of liver problems. If that's the case, may want to look into Dr. Berkson's research ... he suggests a combination of alpha lipoic acid, selenium, milk thistle, along with B vitamin supplements (ALA will deplete b vitamins). This combination has been shown to prevent and in some cases reverse liver cirrhosis.
