Looks like that "missile" came from behind. I had no idea we have missiles that can travel at 20,000 miles and hour inside of our atmosphere.... Quoting: Anonymous Coward 32004531 Detection can track incoming going at 20,000 mph, no problem. However, the meteor by the time you see this video wasnt traveling that fast. The lower atmosphere slowed it down to a manageable speed, and the tracking gave missiles maybe even their airforce time to scramble and intercept. Plausible., Quoting: Anonymous Coward 34241302 Correct. These meteors are incredibly fast in space but once they hit our upper atmosphere, they encounter enormous resistance that causes the meteor to slow down due to friction (and the friction causes enormous heat, which can break apart or reduce the size of a meteor before it hits earth). Quoting: Anonymous Coward 34432875 And if you notice the contrail it is of such limited duration that it tells you that it is slowing down incredibly fast: from hypersonic burning then exploding, to subsonic (no smoke trail at all).
