I've come to never be ambitious in someone elses empire unless you are the type thats happy to get down on your knees or bend over and sell your soul.
When you're working for yourself then it's time to be ambitious.

Also I find myself much more fulfilled when debating online about philosophy, theology, ancient mysteries, anthropology and politics than with the prospect of being promoted. It doesn't help the fact that I actually make pretty much the same money on the position I am now than if I were to get a promotion.
