Re: I found a weird stone in the middle of nowhere by a creek
you don't say how big they are. judging from the background imagery they would be in the 6" - 8" range. If they are 3' in diameter that would be something differnt. Ancient Chinese mariners use 3'- 4' stones with a hole in the middle to for a rope they used them as anchors, btw some have been found off the coast of California. If they are small as they seem to be then who knows, probably some old Indian hand tool club/axe idk

Put a lion in a cage for years without food and watch what happens.
Its appetite will of cause grow and grow, and then you point your finger at its hunger?

Re: I found a weird stone in the middle of nowhere by a creek
I constantly walk the creeks here looking for odd rocks and fossils, got tons of fossils saved from my ventures...

every decent rain brings new stuff out of the hills for me to gwak at.

I've seen that sorta hole in rocks before... i believe it to be made from water dripping/running through it.

i always get excited when i see one, its pretty cool when you find em!

I cant say if yours isnt an mademade object. but it does look like it was smoothed naturally by water running over it.

but that doesnt make it any less exciting... just imagine the history of that rock... how long it took for water to make it smoother and 'drill' that hole.

Awesome find indeed OP!

Re: I found a weird stone in the middle of nowhere by a creek
It's a "Hag Stone".

“To find a stone with a hole in it is a special sign of the favour of {The Goddess} Diana”

It is also believed that if you close one eye and peer through the hole of the hag stone that you can see the faerie world and see elemental beings and spirits. The suspension of a hag stone from a cord around the bed post was believed to prevent night terrors associated with hags or witches afflicting the individual with her magickal powers or “riding” them. It considered extremely lucky to find a hag stone when you are out and about on a walk and even luckier if you have not set out intentionally to find one and just stumble upon it. It is these stones that you are to keep and use in your craft. These stones have been used for protection and fertility throughout the ages and to use them in our modern magick connects us deeply to our ancestors, our pagan and natural roots as Witches or practitioners of folk beliefs.

Ive seen that before.

Sometimes strong water currents that are under cutting the rock create a vortex that wears a hole in the rock.

It doesn't appear to have any tool marks. Nor did Indians bore holes in stone for any reason. Not an Indian tool.

River water will make holes like that in stone. A few pebbles will gather in a small depression and swirl around and round in the current. Over time they will wear a deep round pocket just like that. Then that layer flakes off and you wind up with a loose stone with a hole in it. I saw a whole bunch of them in a creek bed in Tennessee once. Some of them were big enough to hold a bowling ball.

Those are threshing weights. Attached to a leather thong and swung to bring grain down. Also made a great skull cracker in times of war.

Take a look I know nothing about stones, but I do know this rock/stone is not made of clay and the stone is very heavy for it's size, any ideas please. I will take better pictures when my camera battery is done charging.

Re: I found a weird stone in the middle of nowhere by a creek
Holey stones are old stones carved by nature that have holes that go completely through the stone. These stones are reputed to have extremely powerful magical properties

The superstition is that a rock found with a hole in it brings the bearer good luck

Re: I found a weird stone in the middle of nowhere by a creek
nice find, it looks naturally occurring to me, but it's neat.

It's sandstone yah? and the same as the exposed "bedrock" in he creek?

Definitely a keeper, but I don't think it's man made.

It is either an anchor stone as someone suggested if found by a large body of water or it is a sign/symbol on a Treasure Trail. Hope you took a pic of it before you moved it!
