I found a weird stone in the middle of nowhere by a creek

there were lot of chinese workers in cali 100yrs ago or so

I constantly walk the creeks here looking for odd rocks and fossils, got tons of fossils saved from my ventures...

every decent rain brings new stuff out of the hills for me to gwak at.

I've seen that sorta hole in rocks before... i believe it to be made from water dripping/running through it.

i always get excited when i see one, its pretty cool when you find em!

I cant say if yours isnt an mademade object. but it does look like it was smoothed naturally by water running over it.

but that doesnt make it any less exciting... just imagine the history of that rock... how long it took for water to make it smoother and 'drill' that hole.

It's a "Hag Stone".

Sometimes strong water currents that are under cutting the rock create a vortex that wears a hole in the rock.

It doesn't appear to have any tool marks. Nor did Indians bore holes in stone for any reason. Not an Indian tool.

River water will make holes like that in stone. A few pebbles will gather in a small depression and swirl around and round in the current. Over time they will wear a deep round pocket just like that. Then that layer flakes off and you wind up with a loose stone with a hole in it. I saw a whole bunch of them in a creek bed in Tennessee once. Some of them were big enough to hold a bowling ball.

Those are threshing weights. Attached to a leather thong and swung to bring grain down. Also made a great skull cracker in times of war.

Maybe it could be used in making a fire with a bow.

It is either an anchor stone as someone suggested if found by a large body of water or it is a sign/symbol on a Treasure Trail. Hope you took a pic of it before you moved it!

I found many stones with holes on the beach as a kid. We call them chicken gods, srsly.
