read this:

2 firefighters killed, 2 hurt in Texas lodge fire

Published February 16, 2013

Associated Press

BRYAN, Texas – Two Texas fire lieutenants have died of burns after battling a lodge hall fire.

A spokeswoman for the Central Texas city of Bryan confirmed the deaths of Gregory Pickard and Eric Wallace. Mary Stratta says Pickard died Saturday in a Galveston hospital and Wallace at the scene.

The firefighters entered the burning Knights of Columbus hall in Bryan about midnight Friday. Stratta says they didn't emerge when ordered to evacuate.

She says two other firefighters were taken to the hospital in Galveston to be treated for burns. Ricky Mantey Jr. and Mitchel Moran are both in serious but stable condition.

Bryan is 90 miles northwest of Houston.

Now, my comments:

The word "lodge" in the title caught my eye...

And then I started to read the news and discovered about those "Knights of Columbus" that I have NEVER heard about before....

I searched Wikipedia, and here it is:

The Knights of Columbus is the world's largest Catholic fraternal service organization. It was founded by the Venerable Father Michael J. McGivney in New Haven, Connecticut, in 1882, and named in honor of the navigator Christopher Columbus. Originally serving as a mutual benefit society to low-income immigrant Catholics, it developed into a fraternal service organization dedicated to providing charitable services, promoting Catholic education and actively defending Catholicism in various nations.[1][2]

There are more than 1.8 million members in 15,000 councils, with nearly 200 councils on college campuses. Membership is limited to "practical Catholic" men aged 18 or older.[3] Membership consists of 4 different degrees, each exemplifying a different principle of the Order. The Order is a member of the International Alliance of Catholic Knights. Most meetings follow a strict protocol based on guidelines from the National Home Office.

So, one more Catholic order? The Knights of Malta aren't enough?

I have never heard about those "Knights of Columbus" in my whole life...

Another day, another "secret society" that we hear about...

I'm confused about what I should pay more attention in this news:

- A fire in a "lodge"

- This "Knights of Columbus" Catholic order that I didn't know

- The name of the town and the firefighter... Bryan and Moran...

LOL Opie, you must be leading a pretty sheltered life never to have heard of the Knights of Columbus. It is on of the largest fraternities in the world and has a lodge in almost every town with more that 50,000 or so people. They are technically not a secret society since they take no oath of secrecy. They were mainly formed to protect Catholic immigrants from persecution and to provide help to poor catholic families. I have personally been to a KOC meeting when a particular event involved me personally and their agenda is quite open and there is nothing insidious about it, not that I approve of Catholicism. In fact they compensated m for damage done to my property by catholic member in return for my not referring charges against him. He was a drunken fool ATT but a friend when he was sober, and he messed up my car pretty bad with a pipe because he got in in his head his wife was making eyes at me after drinking about a case of Jenny (Genesee beer).

I forgave him and when he sobered up he didn't even remember what he'd done. Anyway, the KOC paid to have my car repaired and were very nice people.

Here's a link to local news: [link to www.kbtx.com]

I live in the area. I've heard of the KoC before. Not much, but an occasional meeting here or there and of local school events that are sponsored by them. Never heard anything bad about them though.

I don't live in the USA.

They seem to be very powerful in the USA... They don't exist over here....

But you can be sure they are involved in many conspiracies! All those "orders" are involved in conspiracies...

Since you have no flag identifying what nation you are posting from, I would suggest you are far more suspicious to me than the KOC. I imagine in the old days if you messed with a catholic you might get the shit beat out of you, but they are not a secret society any more than the moose lodge is. In the town I lived in in upstate new york that was 85% catholic immigrant descendants, their minutes were published every saturday in the local paper, including many things that made some of their members look pretty stupid.

Lodge has nothing to do with this...just a coincidence.

The real question is "why didn't the firefighters come out when ordered to do so"?

Prayers to the families at their time of suffering and hurt.

This fire caused a tragic loss of life.

What kind of crap are you trying to drum up that isn't even the point of this matter?

First responders died here. Why didn't they follow their training and come out when ordered?

Could be for many reasons, something could have fallen on them or they might have lost radio contact. Firefighting is not a safe job and there are no guarantees you won't be killed if you enter burning building. I suspect they were probably members trying to save some of the important artifacts there, they usually have very valuable antiques on display such as swords and suits of armor.

I see nothing unusual about the names except that I know Moran (pronounced More-ann)is a very common Catholic name that is one of those names that was shortened when their family immigrated from Europe

The most famous "lodges" are those of Freemasonry.

The title of the news says "lodge fire".

I don't trust people who meet in lodges...

My dads been a "Knight" my whole life. I'm in a small town so the "Lodge" is the upstairs of a community building owned by the church and the group of "knights" is comprised of dad and 6 other old guys. They fund-raise for local causes. They sell tickets and meals and whatnot. When that's not going on they escape to the hall to watch sports and get drunk. I've never seen anything go on there worthy of a conspiracy site. Of course, I could be a shill. I shoot pool and drink with the old guys occasionally. More fun than you'd think.

That's not very different of the description of the life of low degree freemasons in a small town.

The problem are the high degree members, specially in the big cities....

That's where things start to get really ugly...
