Very odd that the Russia meteorite didn't cause any EMP (electromagnetic pulse) damage
It was very odd that the Russia meteorite did not cause any EMP (electromagnetic pulse) damage to electronics. Since the same thing happened on January 18, 2000 in Canada's Yukon Territory a meteor (tiny asteroid) the size of a bowling ball exploded at an altitude of 25 km with a force of 3 kilotons. In 'burning up' in Earth's atmosphere it generated an Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP) similar to that of a nuclear bomb, knocking out the power over one third of the Territory.

Um, it did.

I heard reports of Cell Phones not working and other electrical problems.

Re: Very odd that the Russia meteorite didn't cause any EMP (electromagnetic pulse) damage
nice catch...

but perhaps both were made of different types of metals?

or perhaps the event you referenced wasnt an meteor at all...

i've never heard of meteors giving off an EMP Pulse.

i must admit its new to me

EDIT:

hmmm looks like they do.

Learn something new everyday

"Meteorite falls often knock out power and anything electrical in the area. This may be due to the EMP, or electromagnetic pulse, of the fast-moving meteor."

CAN an Asteroid Explosion Have the Same EFFECT as an "EMP ATTACk"

that the thing made it thru the ring up sats up there without disturbing one...
i just dunno what to think about that.

I found at aerospaceweb.org ( [link to www.aerospaceweb.org] the following:
"In January 2000, a meteor only 15 ft (5 m) across entered the atmosphere and exploded over the town of Whitehorse in the Canadian Yukon. The blast created an electromagnetic pulse (EMP) similar to that of a high-altitude nuclear detonation and disabled a third of the region's electrical power grid. ... In the summer of 2001, another high-altitude explosion was detected over the Mediterranean Sea. This detonation produced a level of energy comparable to that of a nuclear weapon. In both cases, the US was able to determine that the explosions were natural phenomena and not nuclear attacks."

Might have something to do with meteor composition and the collapse or expansion of the plasma around the meteor debris during hypersonic transit through atmosphere.

The physics and math would be interesting if said phenomena is true.

Why?

Why would you assume all incoming meteors to have the same effect?

Given that mass, trajectory, speed, and composition of the meteor will vary?

I just don't get so-called enlightened thinkers at all.

Don't worry, the next one WILL cause a HUGE EMP damage...

Re: Very odd that the Russia meteorite didn't cause any EMP (electromagnetic pulse) damage
that's because it was an asteroid not a meteorite.
that's why it exploded in the earth lower atmospheric pressure.

der der.....

meteorite burn up or hit the ground because they are much more dense , and solid...
+ electromagnetic charge...

asteroids always explode into pieces, some bigger then others because they are made up of crap and gas....
no electromagnetic charge....

Comets maintain an orbit , and if the orbit don't pass into collision then they will never hit.

No, it did NOT generate an Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP)that cut the power in a small area of the Territory. The power outage was from a previously reported faulty gang switch likely tripped by the sonic shockwave.
