What if SHTF while 50% of inmates in america are outside, not locked in their cell? What if something happens with the electrical grid and causes the state of the art locks to become useless? I can imagine you handcuffed to a pole, taking it up the hiney from Terrell, while hes looking your wife in the eye with a smile, cuz shes next... and shes excited, because she will enjoy it.

Lololol, so many sheltered kids in this thread.

this is my field of work and I have been wondering this too. I am mid level management in a large urban/suburban corrections dept(not prison)and I can say not much thought it put into this. During Y2K we stood outside the perimeter of the place waiting to see if the doors opened. We have a plan in place if we have to move inmates to different counties in the event of the building being destructed but there is nothing in place in the event of a collapse. We have contracts for food and medicine b ut that doesnt mean those vendors will deliver.

My biggest concern is the people who work there. I am NOT going in and leave my family at risk and my home unsecured. I am sure no one else will either. So that leaves those that are dumb enough to go to work and get stuck there for weeks. I just hope it doesnt happen while I am there.

I would assume that the chief judge in each county or state even will make an emergency release petition for all inmates who meet a certain criteria but other than that I am at a loss.

Oh and i write the emergency plans for my unit, lol. I got everything else in place though.

The prisoners are mostly just in for drug offenes - open the doors and they will just go home to their families, no big drama.

In the event of a collapse. I would hope most inmates that are not-violent while be set free immediately. Crazy deranged killers. Judgement day
