OK, Once again! Did you see any fireballs flying over buildings and exploding?????????????? What I see in the videos is a streak of smoke and only later there is an explosion, but where are the fireballs, any videos of those. I mean as they claim, FIREBALLS, not a single fireball. Plus have you seen videos of debris falling from the skies as claimed. It is just a sonic boom or whatever, it cannot be linked directly to the meteor. It could be another kind of explosion. How do you know it was the meteor?
 Quoting: OP 31575640

Because of the dashcams that show the whole event.

What is the use in explaining it to you?

You are trying to be obtuse.

No power lines are knocked down either. A hurricane does more damage than that 250kt meteoric explosion did over there.

You guys are blind. No videos showed any fireballs flying over buildings. Period. There were many dashboard videos released of 'A METEOR' approaching and dissipating long before reaching ground. I didn't seen on any of the videos fireballs above the buildings or huge explosions!
 Quoting: ME 31575640

Agree with you. I was very confused by the youtubes not matching up with what the news reports were. I didn't see fireballs in the videos. I heard multiple explosions, but did not see anything exploding. I dunno....
I have many questions. 5 stars for you.

Ignore people saying it's over.
We can discuss it all we like, we are just trying to figure out what happened.

Re: Huge fireballs flying over buildings and exploding with a strong blast
Where are the videos showing the fireballs exploding above buildings? We only have dashboard videos of some fireball/s flying in the sky and dissipating. It doesn't really look so big either. On footages from similar events you can see the same kind of brightness and size. My question is what caused the explosions!!!!! Do we have any reliable witness accounts of such huge explosions and can we be sure if they were caused by the fireball? We were only given dashboard videos, come on! Furthermore, the people driving didn't respond in any unusual way to the supposed huge event.
 Quoting: ME 31575640

Yes, and the explosions were HUGE and blew out windows, and then the news sites showed a little hole in the ice that is about three meters across. ??????

Yeah, if the official version is true humanity should not worry about a potential asteroid impact as the only damage would be broken glass and few collapsed walls due to the sonic boom...

But seriously now, how much do we know about what hit there?
Did it really hit, did it get destroyed while still in the air by missiles or by itself, what trajectory did it have and so on. How big was the object?

They should do a better job at reporting not just show amateur footage, dashboard videos and some sound of explosions which cannot be located with certainty. What about the collapsed building? Perhaps that is where an explosion occurred.

Fireball, Meteor, etc.

Are you a semantician?

Shits falling from the sky dude.

It will be back in about 314 days.

As far as info, they are not telling, because they don't want to.

They do have data, no duh!

I agree. The story was revised this morning on Yahoo to say that they "underestimated" and it was the power of
500Kt explosion.
Really?

That is 250 times stronger than Hiroshima.
Yet, no flattened buildings, no EMP, no cars on fire.
It seems odd with all the dashcams and sonic booms nobody
had their cameras out to catch the meteor "striking" that building.

The wall is neatly collapsed on one side.
Not blasted over a large area.
It looked to be not a factory that was currently working
but an old abandoned one partially being dismantled anyway!
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1482838

By the way, you make a very interesting point. We should look more closely at the factory! It is where the most significant damage occurred. It is logical to assume that is where the explosion was the strongest or perhaps even originated. Perhaps that is the source of the explosion.Of course, it could be that the building was very old and about to collapse and the sonic boom did just that. But, very strange collapse indeed. As if hit by a rocket or something.
 Quoting: OP 31575640

If it were hit by ANYTHING like a rocket or meteor, why would the bricks be piled neatly next to the building?

The blast would not merely cause a single wall to collapse.
The photos I've seen looked like nothing in keeping with an explosion, at all.

Everything?

When did I do that?

This event fits the definition of a meteor.

It can also be called an asteroid.

Since it didn't display any of the hallmarks of a comet, that would be a stretch at best.

Best definition would be an NEO that hit.

Unless you want to argue the definition of an object.

As for the real bad journalism, I am left speechless. They didn't even bother to interview some witnesses instead sent thousands of military and police to look for debris and covered up the results of this search.

we did hear explosions after the big one.. we didnt see fireballs but i think from the videos that they didnt really knew where to videoscope. They showed the vaporasing trail above them and didnt really follow the object (or the part(s) that remain after the explosion).

Yeah, like so many of the people who 'shared' their opinion and dismissing everything I pointed out...

Come on, guys, don't you see the event wasn't properly reported by the media? CNN didn't even care to make it breaking news and reported it like two hours later.

As for the Russian media, they talk about stuff like fireballs, comets and so on, yet no official footage, just some amateur and dashboard videos. No one is interested in details here as if they are not important.

IMO they all didnt want to scare the people as there was the other asteroid to pass by later. I guess they would love to play it down but unfortunately the people there took videos and images and we all were very excited and wanted to learn more.
On the other hand it sounds normal to try to study the event later and not in the middle of the panic and see what happened and how they can protect us from other such future events. I m sure it will be in their next meeting agenda.

I stand by EVERY word I posted.

Meteor - A small body of matter from outer space that enters the earth's atmosphere, appearing as a streak of light.

Huge? What is huge? It's the largest fireball caught by video that I have seen. Is there more than one? Hard to say from the quality of the video as the flash overwhelms the cameras.

I'm pretty sure though this will be clarified in the near future from analyizing radar returns. That's of course dependent on what systems were up and running at the time.

Bad journalism?

What the hell do you expect? This happened in Russia which is still a pretty fucked up place by Western standards.
