Unions don't pay for shit, government or not. They negotiate a contract with the employer. The employer is bound to the contract. The contract says the employer must pay for health insurance 100%, they can't deviate from that until the contract expires, then the union asks for even more because the company is still making billions in profits. If they don't like it, we shut em down. A lot of the time the increased costs on union health funds are passed onto the employees, i.e. they take a 20 cent per hour pay cut to fund the increase. You can say the employer pays everything, but the total compensation package provided to the employees is the big picture. In a state with low union penetration, the workers have to make sure the package is competitive with the rat competition, or nobody will hire the union companies to perform any work. That's how union contractors stay in business in the south. The employees make more, and the boss man makes enough. The rats get paid shit and the boss man laughs all the way to the bank at non-union shops.
