The idea that this meteor was shot down by a HUMAN missile is ludicrous. Meteors travel so fast and their entry into the atmosphere is so unexpected/unpredicable that there is abolutely NO WAY that any military - whether Russian or American - could know that this meteor was coming in and be able to track it. It was far too small to be picked up on radar.

USA (and Russians perhaps also) had from 80` the possibilities to detect by radars objects in space as small as basketball ball from 37.000 km of Earth. I don't doubt they could have the technology. I guess I tend to see them (much of our government, at least - there are some good eggs!) as bumblers, so I wonder if they just might have missed this one.
