Why are so many people obsessed with God?

Where are you coming from and going to, in your life?

Speaking from my own experience as a pious, God-fearing man...

It's because I am such a piece of shit human being that I cannot be trusted to work out right from wrong on my own. I have to suffer continual guilt-trips over the Lord Jesus giving His life for MY sins and I'm warned that if I don't tow the church line, I'm gonna burn in hell - forever.

Next lifetime I hope to spiritually evolve (OMG those two words CAN be used together) to such an extent where I don't need an obsolete and insidious form of social control like religion to keep me from going on a raping and murdering spree.

Man, I'm gonna be pissed when I die and there's no hell, heaven or purgatory.

I come from my mother, and I guess I'm going to the grave.
Yeah I know, the soul is more important than the physical body yada yada yada.

BTW, I'm not an atheist, just in case.

Me, personally, I don't care what God is. We're never going to find out anyway. And I don't think we're meant to either.

I think because He really does exist and deep down we know this individually and collectively. There is more than enough evidence throughout the various kingdoms of nature and in the human race itself. There are laws by which all things are governed and there are consequences for the choices we make. (sorry to burst the Atheist's bubble).

Because we are here to unite with God and become spiritual beings. Just most of us are too fucked up to get in the club. Me included. Enjoy the party while it lasts. Me, I'm gonna fuck my boyfriend as much as possible and enjoy life and have a few drinks. Party on and fuck the rest.

It matters. It matters so that you may materialize your thoughts and feelings and actions. But it certainly isn't any spiritual revelation. I've been majorly helped out with marijuana ever since trying to accommodate the flux of information in my head.

i also think that "god" is a father replacement, for those whose own dad's kicked the bucket or maybe just been a complete dropkick or spineless pansy.

hence the reason most people anthropomorphise "god" as an old wise man with no fear, beard and sandals, the ultimate father!

And why would going to a child cancer ward restore my belief in god or make me change my perspective on god. If anything it was "him" who gave them cancer in the first place, probably to teach them a lesson for some god-awful reason. Any living thing who thinks its a good thing to harm children is a fucking prick and should die. Not be worshipped. I would get angry, not enlightened. It would make me even more pissed off at the all knowing and all seeing "god". Why would he do this to a group of children? Oh, wait this isnt the first time is it.

I believe so many people are obsessed with god because they want a way to justify their/our pitiful meaningless existence. Sure evolution and science has its faults, but at least it LOGICALLY explains things that, up until they were theorized, were only explained by "divine" influence. Now, we actually have things called EVIDENCE to verify sciences theories, not hearsay and nonsense. We can PROVE time and time again that theories are correct or incorrect. Not base our knowledge solely on BOOK that was written by over 100 people over the course of hundreds of years. I'll believe science before I EVER believe in a literal god.

I also pondered this many years, now being on again off again, I think it is because we are brainwashed with it from a young age. Whatever religion we are raised in it by are parents, just like they start raising us to believe it the tooth fairy, and Santa claus. However religion is of course stronger, I have done some studying on the various religions over the years. I think I believe in something more powerful than us if I want to name him God so be it. It was something inbred in our minds.

Why not.Without him there really would be no point.He created us.We should desire that connection.He does.You only acquire as much as you desire.

Everything we relate to has masculine and feminine properties. Both are equal in beauty and strength. The masculine are the first visible. Therefore God HE is refered to as this.
