Two days later we have meteor/fireballs spotted in Florida and an unexplained fire at a scrap metal facility. After spotting this thread, I just asked a local rock hound/geologist and rock collector (including meteor bits) whether meteors could be attracted to large amounts of metal that might attract magnets and he said it's possible depending on the meteor type. Some do respond as magnets to other metals. hmmm still too little information to know, but a coincidence worth noting. Put it in the notebook, Sherlock. Yes, because an object travelling at over 10,000 MPH is going to feel the metal in a factory, slam on the breaks, make a U-Turn and cause some doom by zeroing in on the factory. What's more, even though the earth itself contains unfathomably more metal than a small factory does, the factory wins the "pull in the meteor fight" every time. |
