Scoop the Nuts: NYC Rounds Up the Mentally Ill | |

Once the homeless are dealt with ; then they come for all others... and evaluate you in your homes for "mental hygene" Can't have a new world order with unclean ones they will come for everyone one day Yep - they will label us all one thing or another and that will be that. I mean, who decides what level of mental illness is deserving of being rounded up? They create a syndrome for every emotion and then we're all fucked... |
| Em18966 User ID: 18966583 02/18/2013 08:52 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | NYC closed the state mental hospitals years ago and shoved all the really serious psycho patients out onto the streets or into "half-way" houses. Some went into Single Apartments, others just got lost in the shuffle. Many of these became violent unless they were on their meds - in which case they were functional. Quoting: MarkinAZ Only problem was NYC in it's haste to save money, didn't think of a way to make sure these people picked up or took their medications. Now these same people are shoving people in front of oncoming subway trains, and into traffic, stabbing people on crowded streets and worse! Getting them rounded up and put someplace safe where they will be given their medication on time every day will probably save a huge amount of money and heaven knows many murders each year that are committed by these crazy people hearing voices or "the devil told them to do it" kinds of reasoning. If you are homeless, how the fuck are you supposed to pay for mental health services??? Or meds? Lack of mental health care is an epidemic in this country. There are a LOT of people who want/need some kind of mental health intervention and simply can't afford it. It's sad. It's a taboo problem that everyone ignores until someone is pushed in front of a train, then they're rounding up homeless people and sending them who knows where. We don't prioritize well in this country - plenty of money set aside to deal with foreign wars and to spruce up city streets to make them more inviting to tourists and their dollars, but nothing available for the citizens of this country who need mental health services. We just wait for them to commit crimes and then throw them in jail - WTF. |

Quoting: Creation Poetique Very disturbing, this. ^^^ This. The guys from the group "Anonymous" who've been arrested, at least 2 in the UK, have been put in Mental Health facilities. They say they'll have to be there for life. "Mentally Ill" probably means anyone who disagrees with what is dictated. |
| Anonymous Coward User ID: 31907650 02/18/2013 08:54 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I get the risk involved here...but there are truly dangerous people on the street and something needs to be done about it. OTOH, I can't think of a way that doesn't risk them making a very wide net to define mental illness because the psychiatric profession is pure hackery. I don't know what the answer is to this one. |
| Anonymous Coward User ID: 7580751 02/18/2013 09:24 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Cops in the NYPD’s Real Time Crime Center are using high-tech methods to first track down the individuals, and detectives on the street have been assigned to then go after them and take them to hospitals, law-enforcement sources said. [link to www.nypost.com] My question is what kind of high-tech tracking methods? What did they do? Implant RFID chips in mentally ill test "subjects" for some sort of MK-ultra mind control experiment that went bad, now they need a cover story to round them up because a couple of them ran off the rails. |

| Anonymous Coward User ID: 34046798 02/18/2013 09:33 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | As an impartial observer I will say that Requiem's assertion that the majority of homeless are clinically insane is probably a little off. But I also don't think that rounding up 25 folks who are presumably VERY sick equals a slippery slope to tyranny. Quoting: Chris12138 I know exactly where your coming from though I am extremely skeptical of the pseudo-science they call "psychiatry". But there are some homeless out there that are extremely dangerous. They harm innocent people and slip in and out of society so I assume "high tech" methods are required to find these disturbed people in such a highly populated city. You are right. There are also many people who are NOT homeless who are extremely violent and dangerous as well. So tell me this: where do we draw the line on rounding up potentially "dangerous" folk? How do we standardize such a term? Who has the authority to standardize what constitutes a potential threat? Do we start a Minority Report type society? Do you see where this goes? Slippery slope on both sides of this proposal as Chris said is refreshing to consider. It's too easy to go into scattershot panic about it when the proposal's criteria then protocols really need to be published and read before going unnecessarily too far. ie., Surely there is a 72 hour period of observation or the like before a solid judgement of 'danger to oneself and others' can be made. You bet the public deserves protection from dying on the way to work or just living their lives. Something does have to happen to change this predicament. Being born and raised in and around nyc I've seen plenty. After moving out and hearing Reagan's callous treatment of mentally fragile people onto the streets, to this day it saddens me. As a society we dropped responsibility for protecting and giving them haven which is obscenely cruel, which fans the flames of disturbance making their illness far worse. So they stop taking their meds, understandable when their internal hell takes precedence over remembering a pill. Even the toughest most stable of people can't handle the life they were shoved into without choice or mercy. So what will be done with dangerously ill people. Stick 'em in jail? Because this is where people like this are taken without proper treatment. Jails are the new mental hospitals. Has anyone seen the new prisons, how they place those suffering extremes of mental illness into further and deeper restrictions and 24 hour lights, restraints, worse than prisoners of war. So barbaric so impossibly cruel to do this to them when they have committed no real crime..they LOST IT! Heck they've even stopped rehab for average people serving time. What we know for certain is that any ANY law or action wrought by this Gov't is met with deep suspicion and rightly so. We expect the meaning as written will be twisted beyond recognition and there are no checks, balances or laws to protect anyone from Bloomberg's or any of them from overreaching as a matter of routine. Personally, everybody, I would love to leave this country right about now if I could afford it. In Germany parents would hand their children onto trains for the duration. We're getting there, Oh, you bet we're getting there. |

Especially now that they are instructed to randomly stop pedestrians and ID them and frisk them. VERY bad there. It was a childhood dream to visit NYC....now I wouldn't even go there for WORK if I had to. Extremely sad, because I always felt drawn to NYC, and now it disgusts me. |

Quoting: Xarian "Mental-Hygiene" Means were all dirty thinkers folks. Fight this, fight this hard.. or you'll be next. Or don't fight it and hide till they find you. I'm already certified "unclean".. so if they pull this shit here (in AUS) i'll go totaly batshit on them, and bring a lynch mob with me.. but our pshyce wards are full of junkies anyways, and there's nowhere for the (poor/less fortunate/lower class) mentally ill to get better.. so they chuck us out on the street to start with... go figure... The most disturbing thing i've read today. First the guns, now the round ups...Yeah, this is absolutely the launch pad of full scale tyranny. I mean. . . "mental-hygiene warrants".. LITERAL thought police. We are dangling off the slippery slope folks. This CAN NOT BE TOLERATED!!! YEAH SURRREEEE WE BELIEVE YOU AND ALL YOUR CRAZZZY STORIES CONCOCTED FROM YOUR IMPERIAL PROPAGANDA NUCANCES...MEH |

The welfare of humanity is always the alibi of tyrants. Albert Camus It only stands to reason that where there's sacrifice, there's someone collecting the sacrificial offerings. Where there's service, there is someone being served. The man who speaks to you of sacrifice is speaking of slaves and masters, and intends to be the master. Quoting: Creation Poetique The city has already drawn up a list of 25 targets This comes after a pair of high-profile subway-shove fatalities from December. “After the Queens subway attack [of immigrant Sunando Sen], the [city] decided to take a proactive approach to track down the most dangerous mental-health patients that currently have mental-hygiene warrants” out for them, a law-enforcement source said. ( Cops in the NYPD’s Real Time Crime Center are using high-tech methods to first track down the individuals, and detectives on the street have been assigned to then go after them and take them to hospitals, law-enforcement sources said. [link to www.nypost.com] So, it begins with the mentally ill "undesirables".... Yeah. With Bloomberg being anti-gun, anti-soda, anti-sugar, why not become anti-mentally ill. |

That was NYC's mental hospital that everybody knew and joked about which has probably shut down (anybody?). Now the mentally ill are housed in jails and prisons all over the country, often with over the top heavy handed restrictions that make their condition far worse. |

Quoting: Dinkytuff The whack jobs in power are just like alcoholics. They surround themselves with bigger whack jobs or crazier people so everyone pays attention and talks bad about the others instead of them. Example, they learn that millions of guns were sold in NY AFTER the illegal bill was passed AND then they learned of a rally at the capital on Feb. 28, so what do they do? Send some black whacko on a spree in CA to get as many of the masses looking that way and away from them. it didn't work. EVERY gun manufacturer in the USA and many overseas are backed up for months and months right now. Gun sales are at record high levels. How do they get people to not notice? Force a few manufacturers to not sell guns to stores in NY....lol. That isn't working either. |
