I used to volunteer at the Lanterman facility, it is actually a compound in California. In the 3rd ward. Lol. You wouldn't want these dudes running around your neighborhood as productive members of society. With a diagnosis as simple as MR., they were literally trying to rape each other when the lights went off. That place scares me. I've had nightmares.
It's something we need to seriously talk about, and look at as a country. Especially since I heard it was being shut down. It houses hundreds of mentally ill patients, but most of them have a harmless diagnosis that you wouldn't expect to being such vulgar and scary behaviors.
I know we are out of money and running on a debt system, but I like to envision something being down about this issue before they get to the point were they are just cages animals. Perhaps try to correct the behaviors when they are still young enough to work with.
I believe the johnny knoxville movie about the special Olympics was filled at the aforementioned facility, sorry 'compound', so it's not all rotten apples, they just happen to lump all varying degrees of adults with disabilities there.. not sure what my point was. So here's a hug guys.
