I think you should read the Gospels again. Christ left us a church to guide us, and it was pretty important to him. He talked about it a lot. Even Martin Luther saw the need for an established church. I'm not saying one can't know Christ without a church, but it certainly helps.

As for destroying the Catholic Church - why doesn't he just do it now? Heck, how has it survived for 2000 years in spite of corruption, scandal, and mismanagement when every time there is a disagreement in the protestant churches, there is a split and an additional church. We are up to over 30,000 different denominations now - which one of those churches has the right interpretation of the Bible?

Maybe the Catholic Church endures because it is His One True Church. When he re-named Simon Peter, he said, 'You are Peter (the rock), and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.' Matthew 16:18 Do you think he changed his mind? Went back on his word? One thing I know for certain about Jesus is that he keeps his word.
