Our "friendly" allies will eventually spill what they know. The UK is notorious for such things and France detests the US keeping so much secret from their people. Remember who helped finance the Revolution. In many ways France is now more of a democracy that the US is - and they know it! So just be patient. Even if it is the passing of Planet X or worse, we'll hear about it shortly - regardless of our governments best laid plans to keep it secret. |

The data could reveal the capabilities of the satellites, ie how well the function at detecting nukes and what not. This data could subsequently be stolen by hackers from Iran for instance, and used to their advantage and the USAs disadvantage. Therefore i can understand the policy decision. |

Or let's say something was headed toward the U.S., and the uncertainty of the event might prompt a foreign nation to stage a military adventure of some sort, or would surely affect the global economy. I mean, what would happen if the U.S. knew that a huge piece of space junk was going to hit somewhere on the East Coast. Would they want every speculator in the world to start screwing with the market trying to short this, that or the other, or anticipate, or try to guess at, what things might be goldmines in which to invest? Modern warfare is information driven. Being the only people in the world to know if an asteroid is going to hit is pretty special information. |
