Nothing was supposed to hit and law and behold... Quoting: ACNope; DA14 wasn't supposed to hit. It didn't. No promise was ever made about "nothing was supposed to hit." We can be hit by small rocks at ANY time without warning. Our detection ability is not good enough to guarantee such a warning. But rocks that we know about like DA14 can be tracked and we can determine if they will hit us in the future or not. DA14 was not the problem, the problem was a smaller rock from a sunward direction that hit the day side of earth where we have absolutely no detection ability.  |
