Okay, since you have experience in Bosnia, I do have a question related to TSHTF scenrios -- in that war, I heard that folks out on farms who were reasonably well prepped did okay AT FIRST. Later, roving armed gangs decided they could smoke those folks out.

Is there a plan for that?

Is something really about to go down? I've had a gut instinct to start prepping for a while now, but I haven't been able to.I wouldn't fare too badly wshtf anyways though without prepping too much. I can build shelter, I can make fire, I can lay traps for food, I know how to aquire water, and I'm pretty good at c and c.

You should always have some prep's that's just good scenes.

With saving seeds from Heirloom veg./fruit the ones that don't have the seeds inside of them, need to remain in dirt 'til they flower and dry to get the seeds, is that correct?

Any advice for a good heirloom gardening book that's aimed towards a complete novice/very beginner?

I see a lot of talk about "seeds" and gardens, thus usually meaning vegetable seeds.
Are any of those seeds, "cotton" seeds? What is the long tern plan for clothing?
Do you know how to make yarn, weave, etc, to make things from raw cotton?
How many are stocking, Gourd seeds, to make containers, dippers and such, in a long term SHTF situation?

How about grains for livestock?

Just wondering as I seldom see these types of "seeds" being discussed.

I've been trying to prep for the last several months (I'm late to the game, but trying to catch up). However, I'm working on a frayed shoestring budget and against a husband who isn't convinced things are as bad as we here at GLP know it to be.

I've mentioned this in another thread yesterday ...

I lack:

stored water
gun/ammo
herbs, seeds, etc
camping supplies
wool/harsh weather clothing

My foods is mostly canned and some MREs.

I'm trying hard to squirrel away money as it comes in towards the supplies.

I'll be honest, we just bought basically 20 years worth of clothing for the family and will not wear any of them until needed, purposely keeping them in packages and only opening a few of those packages in any given year.

The goal is that in 2033 we will still be able to open "New closes from 2013

This includes shoes.
