Privatization of water in Europe, its about the money and control over the water.
German local authorities and citizen initiatives are protesting against an EU directive that would lead to the privatization of public water supply systems. It could lead to forced privatization, critics fear.

its all about money and control, control the water, control the people

Already privatised in UK. Why should the state be the only entity allowed to operate utilities? Most politicians and civil servants don't seem qualified to do owt except follow the instructions of the people who own everything anyway.

Privatised industry forces competition with the full wrath of the outside world. Makes a man of a business.

Privatisation has the IMF behind it. A way to steal tax money away from society into the hands of a few connected rich folks and the politicians are their front men & women.

In Germany, Berlin serves as an example of what can happen when the management of the water supply is privatized. The prices for water in the German capital rose steadily, to more than 30 percent today, according to Matthias Ladsstätter, a water management expert at the German trade union Verdi. He is campaigning against the new concessions.

"Out of these 30 percent, at least six to ten percent are pure profit, which were not put back into Berlin's water supply," he said.

So-called "privatization" of water is never true privatization. If it was, the government would get out of the industry. Instead, they shift it off to corporations they're in bed with, let them administer the system and pay the costs, but regulate the hell out of it.

This is happening in India a lot. Government nationalizes privately held or community owned land in the name of the public good, then a few years later "privatizes" it by giving it to their fascist corporate friends. It's all a scam, and in no way reflects genuine privatization or free market principles.

Yep. The big wigs know that their stranglehold on energy won't last much longer, so they're going after the water supply.

Great thread OP, this is real doom imho. 5*

WDR, German public TV broadcasted a 8 minutes video as a part of Monitor program in December, exposing the Commission's push for privatisation in Greece and Portugal, via the Troika.

It's worse when they sell you the same water at a bottle with fluoride added.

Oh yes, it has been really striking to witness how the ruthless, white-hot competition between the various privatised water companies has brought about ever-lower prices for consumers and steadily improving water quality.

I know a case of people collecting rainwater in their own garden. Nothing unusual you would think. But the german government took satelite pictures and they had to pay a fee because in their part of Germany, collecting rainwater in your own garden - for wich you pay taxes every year already, regardless it being your property - is illegal.
