Although our system now is easier on the body than toiling in the fields all day to grow your own food, it definitely has its drawbacks.

It is absolutely better than the lord english Feudal lord / serf system of the middle ages.

We have it much better in the civilized world than the 2 billion+ currently that dont have clean water and grovel or a piece of bread.

You dont live in say communist Cuba or NK so feel lucky there.

Sounds like you are just suffering from Job related stress, and if so do something about it.

Create and run your own business.

I did that 25 years ago almost as soon as I got out of college, and although sometimes its tough, there is nothing like the freedom you have when you are self employed.

On top of that you can write off everything under the sun
on your taxes.

I even know one woman that currently makes a lot of $ buying stuff at swap shops and selling it on Ebay.

Toiling in the field all day....BULLSHIT
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 9247375

How do you think people obtained food in the past ??

And not that long ago either. Hundreds of thousands of years people have had to work for food.

Even as recent as the early 1900s 95 percent of the population were farmers.

We then worked directly to put food in their mouths and about 3 billion people on earth still do.

If you think you are special, the only thing special about it is that you just happen to be born in a time when there is specialization in work and in society that allow us more freedom from the mundane and groveling parts of life.

Here's why I feel so deeply resentful towards the system, that I am as deeply reluctant to serve it:

First off, it is so stressful and monotonous competing with hundreds / thousands of other wannabe slaves, that you are forced to constantly upgrade skills and sell yourself more (beg harder). It is degrading to beg to be someone else' slave.

Second, if you manage to get an interview, you are heavily interrogated.

Third, if you make it through the interrogation procedure they now own you and they can talk to you like shit and force you to slave away as hard as they like. Not so? Disobey your boss or argue back, you will find yourself penniless and homeless in no time.

Fourth, you are forced to work with people who may be absolute assholes and there's no escape.

Fifth, you take the stress of a job home with you and your mind is swamped with work schedules. so you cannot truly relax - ever.

Sixth, all of your freedoms are removed from the moment you leave school to the moment you retire. You are forced to work 8 hours per day - Monday to Friday - until your youth has gone forever. In fact, your freedoms are removed as soon as you start school.

Seventh, you are deceived into thinking that you are entitled to two days of freedom, but you are so stressed from the previous 5 days of slavery you just want to sleep in on Saturday. Then you spend Saturday night getting drunk to blot out your miserable existence. Sunday is spent sleeping in and feeling like shit from a hangover.

Eighth, constant toiling away and being handed heavy schedules age you prematurely, not to mention stressing the immune system.

Ninth, you cannot live a self sufficient lifestyle legally independent of the system because if you build a log cabin anywhere, so you can fish / hunt or grow crops for food, the system's henchmen will destroy your home and imprison you.

Tenth, you are a tax generating automaton who exists to swell the moneyboxes of the elite.

There you have it -- the big pink elephant is not staring you in the face from the far corner of the room, it is sitting on you and crushing you with it's enormous weight, yet the world is in collective denial over this very obvious fact. Why? Because slavery is all they understand.

That's why I hate the system and refuse to serve it.

So you are saying you are too lazy to deal with the stresses we all have to deal with to be gainfully employed. Sorry bud...nobody is gonna hand it to ya.

There's always self employment ya know.

OP, grow some balls and stop fucking moaning. I bet you're in your late teens or early twenties, have recently finished your education and got your first dose of real life. Well welcome to the club, friend.

I've had some shitty jobs in my time, but guess what: IT WAS 100% MY OWN FAULT I HAD A SHITTY JOB. You gotta put some effort in to get something back out of this life, cos unless you got rich parents or win the lottery nobody is gonna give you JACK SHIT. You need to strive, you need to grit your teeth and keep going until you get what you want.
 Quoting: Shycrow

if we done away with the money system, then everyone would be able to do their dream jobs. Companies depend upon money in order to offer employment (so they can pay a salary), but if we lived in a money free world, then people could volunteer to do what they want. There would never be a shortage of jobs.

For instance, let's say it's your dream to become a computer games designer or computer games programmer, then a games company could take on millions upon millions of volunteers.

Now, you'll likely argue how people could support themselves if they are spending their time volunteering to fulfill their ambitions. Well, millions upon millions of people could volunteer an hour or two planting crops, building homes, making clothes, etc.

Why would you only have to volunteer an hour or two per day in these jobs? because the more hands at work, the more productivity in less time. So this means that after you've done your 2 hourly service in maintaining society's needs, you have the rest of the day to fulfill your ambition, i.e., being a games designer, acting, singing, etc, etc.

Working use to be so much easier back in the seventies and before. People were so much more non-judgemental and there was plenty of work to go around. Lemme tell ya kids, everything they teach and talk about today is total BS. Things were alot better before the big brother government stepped in our faces.

Fuck off !!I was in a job last year(Dec). Treated like shit, although good paying, I thought, I deserve better treatment than this..I was good at my job, if I wasnt I would have been sacked.

So I got another job, handed in my notice, start this new job in the new year, Jan 14, lasted 3 weeks and I was fired. First time in my life. Companies are running so tight that unless you are the best of the best, they know some other slave is willing to spill more blood sweat and tears. Not to mention cost cutting and short cuts, and if you work in a production line, you are the one left to polish the turds. And get the sack when the turd isn't shiny enough

I am in a better position than OP but none of us are immune.
Mate I hope you find a solution.

Working for yourself can go two ways.

For yourself; i.e Business Owner
or
For your self; i.e What interests you.

If you enjoy your job, you won't work a day in your life.

I am of your same age group and I think it's our generation that is the tip of the stick dipping into the shit bucket. I feel even worse for the 20 somethings that are now following us! The ones that came before us had a sliver of the pie left to grab and were able to start their own businesses or invest but the gates are now closed.

Move to the northwest territories or alaska and do that.

You will find, like my friends who have tried this (one in alaska, another was Amish and didn't got the the store for food for 3 years, trying to grow all their food on their own).

The alaska guy gave up. Too hard, too expensive, too lonely.

The amish family gave up not shopping for food. To this day, he says half-joking, he drops to his knees and thanks the Lord Almighty for large supermarket chain stores.

If you live in the US, very little effort, relative to the reward, is expended to get food compared to any time in the history of the world.

Sorry, but like the bible says, if you don't work you die.

Yeah, things really did start to go downhill in the 80's. The Japanese were pouring in and American companies tried to immitate their business successes (little did they know Japan's economy was getting ready to head south).

The effects of big government over the previous decade or two was taking it's toll. Businesses were merging. What they use to call hostile take overs is an every day occurance these days. Company's buy up smaller companies and the CEO's rip off the profits. It has become all about CEO's getting all they can before it all goes down (it's all going down anyway because you can't really make it with the government hanging overhead).

Then you had a pretty big materialistic generation coming on. We had a lot of freedoms in the sixties and seventies because we could 'afford' them. Lots and lots of poverty created due to welfare. Three generations worth at least. It really is a culture of 'gimme gimme' and 'take take' and 'oh, we don't need you!'

Only work as hard as you need to...to survive.

But don't leech off of others.

Independence...self-sufficiency.

That should be the goal.

Freedom...

Do not chain your destiny to other men.

Otherwise...to hell with it.

We will all have to go back to the horse and wagon.

Wonder what will happen with all those big SUVs??

they look like small homes and I bet bigger than what some people live in in

OTHER 3rd world countries.

Re: I'm 34 and jobless. I am deeply resentful towards the so called 'work ethic'. Here's why...
1. You are upset and angry without a job.

2. You are upset and angry with a job.

this only leads to one conclusion:

You are upset and angry regardless if you have a job.

So here are your options:

A. Get a job and be upset and angry with money.

B. Don't get a job and be upset/angry AND broke.
