Here's why I feel so deeply resentful towards the system, that I am as deeply reluctant to serve it:

First off, it is so stressful and monotonous competing with hundreds / thousands of other wannabe slaves, that you are forced to constantly upgrade skills and sell yourself more (beg harder). It is degrading to beg to be someone else' slave.

Second, if you manage to get an interview, you are heavily interrogated.

Third, if you make it through the interrogation procedure they now own you and they can talk to you like shit and force you to slave away as hard as they like. Not so? Disobey your boss or argue back, you will find yourself penniless and homeless in no time.

Fourth, you are forced to work with people who may be absolute assholes and there's no escape.

Fifth, you take the stress of a job home with you and your mind is swamped with work schedules. so you cannot truly relax - ever.

Sixth, all of your freedoms are removed from the moment you leave school to the moment you retire. You are forced to work 8 hours per day - Monday to Friday - until your youth has gone forever. In fact, your freedoms are removed as soon as you start school.

Seventh, you are deceived into thinking that you are entitled to two days of freedom, but you are so stressed from the previous 5 days of slavery you just want to sleep in on Saturday. Then you spend Saturday night getting drunk to blot out your miserable existence. Sunday is spent sleeping in and feeling like shit from a hangover.

Eighth, constant toiling away and being handed heavy schedules age you prematurely, not to mention stressing the immune system.

Ninth, you cannot live a self sufficient lifestyle legally independent of the system because if you build a log cabin anywhere, so you can fish / hunt or grow crops for food, the system's henchmen will destroy your home and imprison you.

Tenth, you are a tax generating automaton who exists to swell the moneyboxes of the elite.

There you have it -- the big pink elephant is not staring you in the face from the far corner of the room, it is sitting on you and crushing you with it's enormous weight, yet the world is in collective denial over this very obvious fact. Why? Because slavery is all they understand.

That's why I hate the system and refuse to serve it.

I dont know what your job is, but it sounds "white collar" office -- the worst place for a backstabbing, dog eat dog, brown nosing environment. You really havent a chance unless you split your personality between home and work. Some people (esp psychopaths) excel in wearing a mask in the office, most dont. The least honest phonies advance best because they not only hide their true selves, but have no qualms about manipulating others for their advantage.

A "blue collar" environment is much better for most, more fun, honest and straight forward -- and much easier to leave it behind when at home. People are pretty much equal, have the same attitudes toward "the boss" and managment and they look after each other.

1. You are upset and angry without a job.

2. You are upset and angry with a job.

this only leads to one conclusion:

You are upset and angry regardless if you have a job.

So here are your options:

A. Get a job and be upset and angry with money.

B. Don't get a job and be upset/angry AND broke.

The only thing I really disagree with, is you say you are forced to work 8 hours a day, monday-friday.

I WISH that was the case. Nowadays, if you are only working 40 hours a week, consider yourself LUCKY.

Many jobs now are looking to squeeze more work out of you, for less buck. That wouldn't be TOO bad, except for the fact that you are forced to make LESS than you should, AND the dollar has FAR LESS purchasing power than it did even 10 years ago.

I know, I know, some people are going to read the OPs threads and attack. I didn't read a single reply yet, I'll go do that now, but I'm sure I already know what to expect. 10 pages of a few people agreeing with him, mixed with some people attacking his way of thinking. No big surprise, lol.

Even those of us who DO have the jobs, we DO put in the work.....we work SO DAMN HARD all we can do is come home, kiss our kids goodnight, and fall asleep....well....most of us are thinking the same damn thing the OP said. Sorry to say, it is true.

Nobody is forcing you man.

If you hate the job market, start a business.

Invest $ and live on dividends.

There are other ways to live beside depending upon a job.

Internet is filled with $ making opportunities.

The guy is exactly right. He gets it. Don't understand why everyone is throwing stones.

It's the truth.

It is a slave mindset. Unless you work for yourself but even then, it's still part of the "civilized system".

After so many years of the same shit, you more than likely have it figured out. But most people don't really want to think about it. You either go along with the system or you are rejected by society.

As I said before. This country excels at promoting greed to the fullest.

This may have been mentioned already...
My 2cents on this issue is slightly related...
I dislike the way that family and people around you begin to look down on you when you are unemployed for an extended period...I know that work ethic and working hard daily is very important(especially to Mexican-Americans) and I agree with it...But, some people act like it is EVERYTHING and you should cease to exist if you do not work and work hard...People,especially family, should be more supportive and understanding and not talk shit behind said person's back due to not being able to work or find work...

Yes, I'm going to build a secret underground bunker in a beautiful national park, so they'll never find it. I've learned lots of bushcraft / fishing skills also.

I'll be waking up to beautiful mountain / lake views and never worry about rent / mortgages or being homeless again.

I am right there with you man! You are not alone. I work at UPS, monday through friday, 3am to 9am for 170 a week, full benefits and an aweome tuition reembursment program. It seems like an awesome job, and for many it is. In fact they only hire from within so making 100K a year as a UPS driver is really good wage for not requiring any degrees. But that is how they get ya to stay a slave to the system.

There is a program that you may be interested in with info being found at wwoof.org

The above has a big role in my plan to learn to be self sufficient. I have been doing archery for 3 months and can hit a bullseye from 30 yards. I have been studying the native plants and their many uses. I too have been studying bushcraft and go survival camping every weekend. I have a2 week vacation coming up at the end of march. If all goes according to plan, I will be spending those 2 weeks surving on my own with my basic equipment. If I feel I have passed my test, I will work till summer and then quit my job. I will enroll in wwoof allowing me to travel in between different farms during different growing seasons. In the semi- long run, it will allow me to full fill my dreams of travel, self sufficency and living a life of constant learning through new experiences. From there I have many alternative plans and back up plans for life, including going back to work for UPS if I ever want to assimilate.
I am 22 in may by the way.

What a fucking whiner! You are safe because if you do get an interview your attitude will cull you from those that actually want to work and be productive members of our society. Good luck with that entitlement mentality.

Perception is reality and if you perceive the work world to be horrible it will be, for you.

Nope, you are wrong. When you work for yourself, all of your customers are your bosses. When you have a job you usually have fewer bosses, sometimes only one, and they actually have some rules to follow while interacting with you.

I have owned my own business and I know what I'm talking about. I prefer working for a company that pays me, provides some benifits like days off and set hours and acts as a buffer between me and the public.

U nailed it OP. Perfectly. I have a unique perspective because I "had" a career in HR and recruiting. worked all the way to Fortune 1000 company my own office etc in 2007. I KILLED myself working 60 hours a week or more to keep the understaffed profit squeezers happy and the Mgrs. I hired for. Who were generally ivy league arrogant fcks who were miserable or so shallow all they cared about was their job. The colleague I hired (female with young child) eventually got into good graces with my other female HR reps with young kids. The boss got fired so it was a jockey for who would be boss. The btch I helped hire kept sucking up to all the women and I guess I was the only threat to her becoming boss. So I was the odd person out. I was the first to go when they had a merger. Despite thinking "hard work" was going to at least keep my job. I was laid off for about 3-4 years, wife carried benefits, I did carpentry side work and odd jobs and we made it. Eventually I had to return to the workforce but I vowed I'd never go back to Korp. Amerika. but I eventually had to take what I could in a sales job. (for literally half what I used to make) Now I work for a german company have a French boss and these fcks have no idea what they are doing. Treating people like slaves talking about Germans "superior" ways. Treting thie American employees like children. I hate these fcks and I'm back in the SAME boat after cruelly, ironically living as a free spirit for 4 years. fck these azzholes. paybacks a btch.

Bravo, OP, for saying so much in one post.

It used to be much easier to get a job. Now, because of globalization and the Internet, there are many fewer jobs in developed countries, so the power has tipped over to the side of the bosses/owners. You are right. They can demand whatever they want, probably right down to accent, weight and hair color. And, if you are in a right to work state here in the U.S., you can be fired on a whim.

The sad thing is that many of the institutions/workplaces themselves seem correupt, and it should make people with a conscience uncomfortable to work in them.

I saw a program last night on CNN about how a self-employed man with health insurance is now facing bankruptcy because his insurance wasn't good enough to cover the hospital bill. The program focused on the ways hospitals stick it to people like him by billing extravagantly for everything, including the stupid little white cups in which they bring you pills. The report featured one person who tracks such stuff, and she said that it is possible for the hospital to bill you thousands of dollars for those cups. And this is only one of many such examples of overbilling. So, how do people who work for a hospital doing stuff like that live with themselves? How do they ignore it?

This slimy stuff isn't just confined to health care.

Anyway, even if a person gets a job, it's not likely that, if the person has a conscience, that he can feel good about it.

Re: I'm 34 and jobless. I am deeply resentful towards the so called 'work ethic'. Here's why...
1. You are upset and angry without a job.

2. You are upset and angry with a job.

this only leads to one conclusion:

You are upset and angry regardless if you have a job.

So here are your options:

A. Get a job and be upset and angry with money.

B. Don't get a job and be upset/angry AND broke.

The FALSE CHOICE con, don't you get it ?
If you bought a car that was a lemon does it mean you don't want a car or do you want a car that works for you.

Everyone should pay more in taxes and ask how much they can keep for themselves. This is being a good sovereign citizen.tounge

No matter what, we are all making bricks for the pharaoh. Sure you can work for yourself, if you have $, skill, luck, persistence, maturity, college degree, etc etc etc.
Just hang tight it will really get bad really soon and we will all be in the same boat.

All depends on what you are worth.
Worth depends on your skills and what you bring to the table, how much $$$ they can make with you.
If you don't know shit, you will be treated like shit.

I know lots of people who run businesses, and if you have skills, know your shit, and work efficiently, you make them big $$$ and they will hold on to you for dear life.

If you are a whiny alcoholic with no skills, you are worthless to them.

slavery is all they understand.

That's why I hate the system and refuse to serve it.

If slavery is all there is, by default you will be serving somebody; you just haven't figured out whom: If you become self-employed, your master may be the customer with unreasonable expectations, and banks whose money you need for capital.
